1980s pop act Limahl believes he could have stayed in ITV1’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! for longer if he had received greater support from his gay fans.

The 53-year-old Kajagoogoo singer became the second contestant to be evicted from the reality show after Nadine Dorries was booted out earlier this week.

On hearing the news Limahl, whose real name is Christopher Hamill, said: “It’s a complete surprise. Where was the gay vote…what happened?”

Before the eviction he had broken down in tears, complaining on camera that he did not have any “friends” on the show and he was feeling excluded from the group.

Meanwhile, Mid-Bedfordshire Conservative MP Nadine Dorries, who has been a staunch critic of the government’s equal marriage plans, says she has set up an office in her Australian hotel room and is now back at work.

The MP was suspended by the party following her decision to appear in the show.

Before arriving in the jungle, Ms Dorries said she wanted to use her appearance to raise awareness of issues she is interested in, such as reducing the time limit on abortions from 24 weeks to 20 weeks.

Asked by presenters Ant and Dec after her Wednesday eviction if she felt she had achieved her aim, she said: “I don’t know what people have seen but I have had some fascinating conversations in there. It’s been a fascinating experience.”
