  4. It never ceases to amaze me that many of these anti-equal marriage proponents assert that gay people don’t want the legal right to marry, as if the whole scheme was just invented by some straight political do-gooders…

  5. Yet another pathetic attempt to play the victim card. By not allowing Christian bigotry to deny gay people equality, this twit says that is “disrespectful” to Christians. Well firstly, it has NOTHING to do with Christians, other than those Christians that embrace gay people and would like the ability to marry them in church. Secondly, there is an implication that the bigoted opinions of bigoted Christians should be respected – they shouldn’t.

Every winter he continues to holiday on his familys former slave plantation in Barbados, completely without a care.

    Stop picking on us Christians!
What have we ever done to you!??

Apart from blatant homophobic bigotry, witchhunts, the inquisition, the crusades, spreading guilt, lies and hatred across the globe and controlled millions with the word of man dressed up as some fictitious deity that some people were apparently blessed to hear.

It is just SO unfair that after 2000 years people are actually listening to reason.

  14. Beautifully timed letter just after the church’s conscience has put women’s equality on the same dismal footing as gay equality…..how does he explain away the church conscience on the women’s bishops vote?

If the rest of the world moved at the same pace as the church then we would still be in medieval times.

I am surprised in this article there is no mention to Richard Drax’s previous career as a BBC presenter for BBC South East News.

Prior to his election he was the BBC on-the-spot news reporter and I believe it was as a result of his relatively high profile telly appearances, he became elected.

His anti views are well-known locally, as his temper.

    A nasty bit of work.

Then he did work for the BBC.

  19. ““In my view, there is no call for ‘marriage’ to be redefined, not even from the gay community, which now has equal rights. In fact, I believe it is disrespectful to those who believe that marriage is an integral part of the Christian faith.”

One lie and one bizarre statement! I’m heartily sick of these ‘christians’ lying and saying there’s hardly any demand for equal marriage – yes, there IS, you mendacious little man!

And marriage is an integral part of the Christian faith, is it? Anything other than that is disrespectful? Ok then, that’ll be the marriage of my two atheist friends; the marriage of my Muslim friend; and the marriage of anyone else who’s not a Christian! Imbecile!

And I note that the end of that biblicallly-inspired quote has been dropped: one man and one woman FOR LIFE. So leave the gay people, Drax, and get out there and ban divorce!

    Post a reply →
    1. Actually the christian bible has almost nothing to say on the institution of marriage. Almost nothing.

Early christians eschewed marriage altogether, because christianity began life as an apocalyptic death cult with nothing but disdain for worldly customs and conventions such as marriage. Even when it became the official state cult of the late Roman Empire it simply borrowed its preferred marriage customs wholesale from previous Roman traditions. It was only in the eleventh and twelfth centuries with the increasing institutionalization of the Roman church that christians started taking an interest in regulating secular personal and legal affairs, and trying to usurp marriage as their special business.

  20. I wrote to him via his website:

    Dear Mr Drax,
After reading your comments on equal marriage I was most surprised to discover that you have had not one, but three wives. Does not divorce re-define marriage from biblical teaching?

Excellent! Everyone should bombard these idiotic hypocrites with similar messages. Civil marriage isn’t part of the Christian faith and was instituted by the state so that divorced people, in his case thrice married, can remarry, yet his own church discriminates againt him having a religious ceremony. I’ve read both old and new testaments twice in my life time. Nowhere is civil marriage mentioned. He’s just another bigoted hypocrite and I bet he’s not even religious but using religion to score points with the hatemongers. The real threat to marriage is people like him and should I dare assume that he committed adultery, may be once, twice or three times, whatever, it still makes him a hypocrite, a bigot and a homophobe, not that we care that he may have gay friends or relatives. We see through that, Mr. Drax and it doesn’t work any more.

So, he’ snow the spokesperson for LGBT people? Why does this idiot seem to think that gay people aren’t calling for equal marriage? Who are they exactly? I suspect they are straight bigots doing C4M’s dirty work pretending to be gay.

Drax thinks we have our equal rights does he? Well then, if CPs are so equal, why wouldn’t he and others like him want one? Would he object to marriage being replaced by CPs for everyone I wonder? Of course not and we know why don’t we?

Isn’t he aware, civil marriage is NOT religious marriage?

  24. The moron thinks marriage is a key part of being Christian. Marriage has been around a long time before religion.

    Post a reply →
    1. As I’ve said above, the original christian attitude towards marriage was that it was a needless and frivolous secular affair and utterly irrelevant thanks to the impending apocalypse. Early christians specifically AVOIDED marriage as something that would distract them from their life devoted to preparing for the imminent end of the world.
