London Community Pride unveils 2013 bid application
A new organisation that is looking to run next year’s gay pride event in the capital has unveiled its plans.
On Tuesday, London Community Pride (LCP) formally announced its involvement in the tender process.
Andrew Jones and Michael Salter, co-chairmen of London Community Pride, said:
“As we all saw, this year’s Pride celebrations failed to meet the high expectations of London. In the aftermath, a number of community meetings were held and several groups started to form; two of these groups came together to form London Community Pride, and it’s our intention to create an event that delivers for the LGBT community in London and the charities and organisations supporting it”.
Members of LCP’s executive team include the editor of QX Magazine Cliff Joannou; Kerry Chapman, the manager of Gaydar’s Profile bar in Soho; G-A-Y promoter Jeremy Joseph and Mark Delacour from LGBT Consortium.
LCP said it aims to run the festival over a three day period, with events taking place across London, along with the traditional Saturday rally in Trafalgar Square.
July’s event had to be heavily scaled back after the organisers, Pride London, were forced to admit to a cash crisis just days before it was due to take place.
Pride London’s chair Dr Patrick Williams resigned as a result of the fiasco in the same month.
