The realities of same-sex parenting and surrogacy are being explored in a new online TV series.

The Vessel guest stars Louise Jameson, who has previously made appearances in Doctor Who and Eastenders, along with the playwright and actor Robin Soans, who has also starred in the 2006 Oscar-winning film, The Queen.

In recent years, web-based TV series have grown in popularity, thanks in part to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike – when many writers took to the internet to showcase their work in the hope of eventually getting a commission.

The Vessel, which is produced by Fyrian Films, won a prize at the Raindance Film Festival in 2011.

Elliot Grove, founder of the festival, said:

“I saw the pilot of The Vessel at Raindance late last year and for me it ticked all the boxes: a persuasive story line, commanding performances and created with a cheeky style that has ‘Raindance’ all over it.”
