When I lived in South Africa it was relatively safe….if you were white. Unfortunately the amount of hate crimes that exist within and between the black communities is off the scale. On this occasion it was against a poor lesbian woman, on another it will be against someone from the “wrong” tribe. The South African police are pretty powerless against it because it is so widespread, and the culture of macho posturing quickly turns into violence if the police do actually attempt any form of crackdown.
The Rainbow Nation is broken sadly, and it’s women feeling the full blast of just how broken it is.
We live in an awful world. You have to have a blindfold on, or your head has to be in the sand, in order to think that everything is sweet and fine. I just can’t imagine how awful it must be for LGBTs in most African and Asian countries right now.
I share your thoughts, Eddy. Once equal marriage is law, I hope the international LGBT community that lives in (relatively) free countries will turn its attention to the fascistic persecution of LGBT people in some African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

So much for justice in South Africa…not much have changed…corruption and more corruption…
“No arrests have been made in connection with the attack and the motive is unclear”
Says it ALL.

Sickening…
Every part of this story is just so depressing.
She managed to stay alive for quite a while after the attack. If the ambulance had been quicker she may have survived. Such a sad story.
