  1. Is it unnatural to cure cancer if God gave it to us? Is it unnatural to use a calculator if the brain God gave us can’t do it alone? No. Get. A. Grip.

    1. Yes, and the irony is that he’s saying this on television, that…er…well known natural phenomenon :D

    2. bilywwingartenson 12 Nov 2012, 2:47am

The FRC of which tony perkins heads is a hate group per the southern poverty law center

Tony Perkins is a stinking racist.

      http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/picture-worth-thousand-memories

as are most of the vile hate groups against gay people.

  2. Blah blah blah blah blah!

  3. That There Other David 9 Nov 2012, 11:38pm

No Tony, it is the unjustified denial of rights to a section of American society that is “tearing America apart:. All you need to do is stand aside and let other people live their lives according to who they are and all the fighting will stop

    1. Sounds like he is threatening violence to me if people don’t agree with him and they lose the argument. Just like Al Qaeda.

  4. Standard issue christo-fascist loon, head of a SPLC certified hate group.

Perkins who has a distinct personal interest in sustaining anti-gay animus as it is part of his business model (blow your gay hating whistle, garner donations).

And – as an Non-Profit Organisation – if the federal law changes to make homosexuality a protected class, he runs the risk of his group losing its 501(c) status, and the tax benefits that go with it, as bigotry does not fulfil the social benefit requirement.

In short – a hate for hire snake oil salesman who can be safely ignored.

    1. Midnighter 10 Nov 2012, 9:39am

      Interesting contribution Valksy, thank you.

      1. The (mostly) men running groups like the AFA and the FRC are paid six figure sums for their “work”. Tony Perkins is paid about $175,000 annually for his post, and that will exclude the public appearance fees and printed works that he is producing (trading on his name as the leader of the group, a self perpetuating cycle of hatred).

Changes in the cultural zeitgeist, as well as federal law, will put him out of “business” so naturally he will resist and lie as much as he can because it is his meal ticket.

        1. Trading on his name…..which he shares with that well-known Gay actor (of remarkable talent), Anthony Perkins. THIS Tony Perkins could certainly have held his own in a revamped “Psycho”….and I am fairly sure that he does hold his own!

  5. “…it’s unnatural for two men to be married, it’s unnatural for two women to be married…”
    Too true.
But then heterosexual marriage is also unnatural, because marriage does not occur in nature, it is a social construct that only applies to humans.
So lets either scrap marriage entirely, or give up on the ‘it’s not natural’ claim.

  6. Biology?! Has he researched into and considered the studies that thousands of species on this planet have homosexual tenancies and in almost every species homosexuality exists?

    1. I’ve actually used this argument before. :D Their response is almost always, ‘humans are not animals.’ I say, well basic grade 9 biology says yes, we are. We’re branched in pretty nicely. Their response is usually… That science is wrong.

Because biology doesn’t mean anything unless they’re using it’s name to advance bigotry.

  7. Tony Perkins, you are an unmitigated fool…I can’t wait until the day comes when your hidden male lover is discovered, so you can be shut up like the rest of your anti-gay closet case friends.

  8. you do lose the will to live listen to such morons

  9. johnny33308 10 Nov 2012, 2:07am

The only tearing apart going on is to the organizations established in the US specifically to destroy equality for LGBT people, due to their inbred incurable bigotry. Just deserts, I’d say…..what a cry baby loser of a turd this ignorant fundamentalist truly is! wah……

  10. Oh the cries from those on the losing end of history! Oh and another point… Is he suggesting that democracy is also ‘unnatural’ and bad?

Funny to think what he’d have said if he’d actually WON the votes? “common sense prevails” and “the people have spoken” etc….

  11. the same as marriage is unnatural. It was created by the state to recognise relationships and give them certain rights – it was not made by god and god did not specify that only married people should have those rights – governments did.

  12. “Love, love will tear us apart again.” Extremist Christian conservative Tony Perkins has got that going through my head all day now. Although, in actual fact it won’t, so I guess the joke’s on him.

Ah yes the good ol’ Family Research Council who go on and on about the “scientific” backing for their inane theories that gay people are taking over and most of the evils and ills of the world are our fault and talk of “basic biology” when they don’t even believe in evolution. Very odd group of people.

“Love will keep us together!” – Neil Sedaka, Captain and Tennille.

  13. carl mcluhan 10 Nov 2012, 4:19am

Let’s not use the term “natural” to talk about sexual activity. If you’re in a relationship where sex is involved, are you always interested in creating a baby? Of course not.

Gay people are not primarily focused upon creating new life, but then most heterosexuals aren’t either, are they!!

Let’s talk about the importance of intimacy in a relationship, then go from there.

  14. Anyone who can claim that anything is “unnatural” has no knowledge of nature.

  15. More like it’s tearing him apart.

  16. So the US religious right are threatening to blow themselves and the country up with them if they can’t block marriage equality.

    1. Threatening to blow themselves up I meant, my bad!

  17. Uh huh. Tearing America apart in the same way as treating black people as equal human beings did. Idiot.

All he means is that he’s p*ssed off that very soon his bigotry will be seen in the same way as racism by most people in society. Who will the poor dear pick on then?

    1. Unfortunately, most of these people actually do believe that America has been torn apart by ‘people of colour’. It’s like how when Obama won, FOX News had this explanation: America is not a ‘traditional’ America anymore, the ‘white establishment’ is now a minority, that it’s the people who ‘want things’ that vote Democrat.

Of course, we’re ignoring the 70% of Americans on government support are white. A very large number of them just happen to vote Republican. I don’t get it, but I suspect they don’t either.

  18. Seth Kaiser 10 Nov 2012, 9:05am

Being in love has nothing to do with ‘whether it fits or not’. Its not all about sex and having babies. Tony Perkins, if that is your definition of love, well, sad to be your spouse.

  19. Mumbo Jumbo 10 Nov 2012, 9:08am

What’s tearing Perkins apart is his Christian beliefs on the one hand and his desire for penis in the other.

    1. Lol!, I think you’ve probably nailed it.

  20. What’s being torn apart is his deluded view of people and society and he’s kicking and screaming about it.

  21. The “unnatural” argument is always the last gasp of the idiot.

Wearing shoes, brushing your teeth, cutting your hair – not to mention male sexual exclusivity – are all unnatural yet, curiously, one never hears them arguing against them.

  22. Jock S. Trap 10 Nov 2012, 10:16am

People like Tony Perkins will ‘tear America apart’ by their hatred and bigotry. No-one else will.

They will insist on dividing not uniting and how is that best for any country?

I don’t see any country that has marriage Equality tearing itself apart and the only thing that is unnatural here is people like Tony Perkins.

  23. Sister Mary Clarence 10 Nov 2012, 10:33am

Actually I think what is tearing America and other countries apart (if anything is) is the historical and ongoing breach of trust by members of the church, an institution that millions look(ed) to and trust(ed) for guidance and support, who seemingly cannot keep their hands off young children.

For a section of society that has preached a path of righteousness in others, the record of those preaching on behalf of the church in relation to abusing children is truly shocking.

It undermines the very fabric of the church and terminally taints and message that the church has to offer.

As an organisation that has not even paid lip service to protecting the rights of children to live free from sexual abuse it has given up the right to preach morality to others.

Religion long ago lost its purity of message and its direction – if it finds it again it can maybe breach morality to others but until then ….

  24. “unnatural”, like “supernatural”, is a completely meaningless word. “Nature” is all-encompassing, by definition. If it exists then it’s natural. That’s what natural MEANS!

Human beings are natural. Human society is natural. It’s simply another set of evolved behavioural phenomena that certain animals do. Trying to draw a line between “natural” and “unnatural” is an arbitrary waste of time. It does not reflect any kind of objective reality.

  25. One day these loonies will realise it is their rhetoric that is splitting the country apart.

    1. They’ll never realize. But one day they’ll die out, and their children will be a small minority. That’s all we can ask for, really.

  26. It is definitely unnatural to be a right-wing, homophobic bigot!

  27. ...Paddyswurds 10 Nov 2012, 12:23pm

The right wing xtians are so pissed because their attempt to turn the US into a theocracy failed miserably Tuesday. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. watch the vid in which beck warns Americans to buy farmland and guns! http://www.rightwingwatch.org/

  28. ...Paddyswurds 10 Nov 2012, 12:28pm

Right wing nutjob Glen Beck How is this guy allowed to say these things on TV???

    1. First Amendment means it’s not criminal and any loon who can get air space/youtube/internet radio can spout that bilge.

Keep in mind that, for all their wailing, there’s a good chance that people like Beck will be overjoyed that Barack Obama won despite all their blubbering hysteria – their whole act is based around hating the President and pandering to the dimwitted mob.

  29. Robert in S. Kensington 10 Nov 2012, 12:34pm

He doesn’t say if it’s natural for an heterosexual infertile couple or a couple beyond child bearing years to marry. Their constant obsession with sex and procreation speaks volumes.

  30. Robert in S. Kensington 10 Nov 2012, 12:38pm

Almost all of religion is morally bankrupt and hardly in a position to judge others when it hasn’t even been able to get it’s own house in order. Arguably, religion is the nerve center of hypocrisy and bigotry, just look at what it exported around the world, subjugating native peoples, torturing and killing them if they didn’t accept an alien belief system in some instances, the list is endless.

  31. Aryu Gaetu 10 Nov 2012, 1:00pm

There is a little bit of hope in the changing tide. Watch this for an excellent summary of what happened (and why) on the US election day.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show#49736294

The US Congress may not have changed much, but there were dozens of other state-by-state changes that caused an even greater shake-up collectively.

  32. I wonder if he thinks democracy is ‘unnatural’. The voice of America was heard loud and clear earlier this week. Majority support for marriage equality was found to be unequivocal. He should respect that.

  33. Janiegrrl13 10 Nov 2012, 1:45pm

Wait? So he’s NOT gay? That’s funny, I got the distinct impression that he was.

  34. If we followed Mr Perkin’s argument to its logical extreme, we’d have to live in caves or forests, and this thing called a “toilet” would consist of some bunched up leaves. Not to mention hunt and grow our own food. After all, that’s how “natural” humans live

  35. Robert in S. Kensington 10 Nov 2012, 3:29pm

And this is what people like Tony Perkins do to gay people. Christian Institute take note.

  36. tomchicago01 10 Nov 2012, 3:56pm

Clearly, the use of aspirin as a fever-reducer is also unnatural for the Treatment of Tony.

  37. Cardinal Capone 10 Nov 2012, 5:12pm

Why is a listed hate group being given air time? Surely they could find someone less abominable to put forward objections to ssm?

  38. Oh shut up you buffoon! Is it perfectly natural for you to embarrass yourself on USTV? Of course it is, because you have been blinded by modern times and are unable to adapt to the fact that times have changed. You’ve also been brainwashed by unintelligent idiots who have nothing else to do apart from follow the teachings and false words of an invisible being.

Clearly you are a paranoid schizophrenic who needs the assistance of a few people in white coats. And a healthy dose of medicine to calm those voices banging about in your empty head.

  39. The desparate cry’s of a minority who have lost vote after vote and now the Presidential election, and can now do nothing but bleat on repeatedly like an old broken record. It’s the religious right who now needs to be closly watched as the dangerous predators in our society.

  40. Evil religious fanatics like Tony are using people to stir people up to make trouble for good decent people. These good and decent people voted recently for freedom and did not fall for the lies and propaganda of the anti-gay Christian right by voting for Obama and gay marriage in Maine and Maryland which is proof that there are good people in America who will not let the religious fanatics “tear America apart” of destroy America by becoming an evil religious dictatorship over all people and then the world.

Equal marriage tearing America apart? Really, Perkins? Then please explain the recent scandal surrounding the ever so heterosexual christian CIA director General David Petraeus’ adultery with his biographer, Paula Broadwell? He’s been married for 38 years, two adult children and now it appears a second woman may have been involved in the affair. The hypocrisy of these right wing hetero religious nutters is beyond the pale. If anyone is harming society and marriage it’s all those hetero adulterers, Perkins.

  43. Is he’s worried about America, he should probably be more concerned about the 16 trillion dollar deficit.

  44. What a moron. People like him said the same thing about:

    The abolition of slavery
Giving women the right to vote
    Desegregating the armed services
    Inter-racial marriage
    Desegregating schools
    The Civil Rights Act

Tony, stupid white dickhead, did u not learn anything from the 2012 election…dig a hole and crawl in…

  47. As a legacy of the Salem Witch Trials, religion and state were to be completely separated in the United States.

How dare these people forget this legacy and try to dictate religion!

  48. oh for christ’s sakes
