“the Catholic Church has emerged in recent years as the only institution on the global stage that’s capable of resisting the forces that threaten to “break up … human society.””

What, forces like that pesky Democracy?

  2. ...Paddyswurds 9 Nov 2012, 9:31pm

“break up … human society.” Only the evil paedophilac Cult of Rome could twist marriage, a joining together, as a breakup of society. it really is time these twisted old ex Naz1 men gave up trying to dictate how humans should run their lives.

    1. That There Other David 9 Nov 2012, 11:35pm

This seems like a weird thing to be typing, but erm….don’t blame the Naz1s. The Vatican’s evil goes back much further than them. 1600 years of corruption, hidden scandal, wealth accumulation and abuse of power.

    2. There only seems to be one militant group who want to ‘twist marriage’ and distort it’s meaning.

Some could argue that ‘Eating’ should be redefined. That people who put food under their armpit should be allowed to call this ‘eating’ .Anyone who disagrees and calls this behaviour disordered will be branded an armpit-phobe, a bigot , against ‘eating equality’ ,a dinosaur, living in the Dark Ages etc They will argue ‘We are not forcing anyone to eat using your armpit and this won’t affect ‘traditional eating’ ,don’t dictate to us how we live our lives and ‘eat’- etc
This would be a Topsy-Turvey world indeed , but is the kind of distorted landscape we live in when a minority want to distort marriage. Two people of the same sex are physically incompatible for the union that is marriage.Saying that marriage is a right denied to people who call themselves gay is wrong – you have the same right as everyone else to marry – there is nothing stopping you-marriage is between one man and one woman.

      1. Really? Since when does the church claim marriage as their own property?

Sorry… Your argument just does not hold up my friend.

      2. You speaking of distorting the meaning of marriage, and use the analogy of eating. Your reasoning, to me, lacks merit. Marriage is a sociocultural phenomenon; eating a biological function. Thus, whilst eating is necessary for the maintenance of life, marriage in its current (or any) form is not necessary for individual or societal survival. This is rather like declaring breathing analogous to the wearing of fashionable clothing.

At this point, you may be thinking that marriage is indeed a biological function (breeding) however, this would merely betray your inability to rise above your ethnocentricity. This connection has not always been made (indeed, even in the Christian Bible, was there not Jacob who had a child by his wife’s handmaiden as his wife was infertile?)

Rise above your immediate desire for stasis and consider the matter with care and compassion, as well as logic. Return to these pages then and let us know the results.

        @Ray …
…… There something I’ve often wondered, Ray; How does it feel to be a dinosaur?

      4. In what way are a same-sex couple physically incompatible for marriage – I assume you mean because of the impossibility of penis-in-vagina sex? What about elderly couples getting married who are unlikely to have this kind of sex, or disabled people who find it physically difficult or impossible, or intersex or trans people who don’t necessarily have the ‘equipment’ that you might expect given their legal gender? Are they all physically incompatible for marriage? Shouldn’t you be campaigning to exclude them from it, to prevent your concept of marriage from being distorted?

      5. PantoHorse 10 Nov 2012, 4:40pm

Wow, you really need some help, Ray. What a bizarre analogy!

  3. The clergy of Catholic Church made it the only institution on the global stage that so widely ravaged segments of human society, causing misery to thousands if not millions, with very little consequences.

They make a lot of noise but they have zero credibility/

    1. ‘*The Jews*(or ‘homosexuals’) made it the only institution on the global stage that so widely ravaged segments of human society, causing misery to thousands if not millions, with very little consequences.’
The above statement worthy of Joseph Goebbels is an illustration of the pathological hatred some people who label themselves ‘gay’ have for the Church – if you were to replace the words ‘Catholic Church’.”Catholic baiting is the anti-Semitism of the liberals.”

      1. That There Other David 9 Nov 2012, 11:34pm

Oh, we don’t hate them at all. We love them. We just want to set them on the right path ;-)

        1. Remember Oscar Wilde was welcomed with open arms into the Church and found the Truth and the right path. There is Hope for everyone – true equality .The Catholic Church is “for saints and sinners alone” .

          1. That There Other David 9 Nov 2012, 11:55pm

As long as you do as they tell you….

There is no such thing as sin. There is only right or wrong, and the Vatican is most definitely in the wrong.

Yeshua ben Yosef would have stayed in Nazareth making furniture had he known that his words would result in corruptions such as the Papacy.

          2. ‘There is no such thing as sin. There is only right or wrong’ – this is a contradiction because sin is a wrong.Moral relativism dictates that the individual decides which is good or wrong – when of course there is only one universal Truth and Law (‘there is only right or wrong’) who some people call God .That There Other David , you seem to be asking the right question.

          3. That There Other David 10 Nov 2012, 8:41am

Oops, sorry Ray. I just accidentally reported you thinking I was hitting reply.

Sin isn’t just a “wrong”. Sin is described as a wrong against God’s law. Therefore if you don’t subscribe to the idea of God you can’t be committing sin even if you are doing wrong.

The right vs. wrong argument can basically be summed up by one question – does this action hurt anyone or anything? If the answer is yes, it’s a wrong. If the answer is no, then it’s not. You don’t need a Bronze Age Book of Fables to refer to for the answer to that, you only need to listen to the inner voice evolution has provided us all with.

So let’s think of an example. Two women who find each other attractive fall in love and have a life-long relationship. Who is hurt by this? My inner voice says nobody.

      2. Please do not play the victim game here. It is merely a tiresome distraction which does nothing to advance your argument.

      3. “The Jews” and “the homosexuals” are not institutions. It is perfectly reasonable to criticise the actions of an organisation, especially one that demonstrably causes great harm to society (for example by actively trying to encourage the spread of HIV and other STIs, which the Catholic church undoubtedly does). It makes no sense to criticise a vast and diverse group of people who are connected only by their ethnicity or sexual orientation.

        1. Congo 70% Catholic = HIV infection rate 4%
Uganda 45% Catholic = HIV infection rate 10%
South Africa 5% Catholic = HIV infection rate 38%
Botswana 5% Catholic = HIV infection rate 40%
          source; World Health Organization

          – says it all and destroys your vile idea that Catholics and Catholic teaching spreads disease (some people in Germany during the 1930’s blamed the jews – you have the same twisted beliefs James).

  4. Pavlos Prince of Greece 9 Nov 2012, 10:17pm

‘Global stage that`s capable of resisting’? Mafia has same quality too.

  5. And one of the most repressed, scientifically challenged, heterocentric, heterophobic, disfunctional organisations the world has had the misfortune to encounter still parades a celibate bunch of bunch of old men thinking they have anything of import to say to the real world…

Three words – Get a life!

    1. Two words for the Vatican and one is OFF you can guess the other one,

  6. It is the sort of newspapaer that my Grandmother would have cut into small squares and used in the ‘smallest’ room of the house!

  7. Paul from Brighton 10 Nov 2012, 10:17am

The Catholic Church incorporated will always brush off any form of threat to it’s future.

However, internally, a storm like no other is brewing. There’s an increasing expectancy that more Catholic priests and clergy are going to start speaking out about the unacceptable sexual apartheid that this church together with the Anglican church actively supports.

In the past few days, I have spoken to three Catholic priests, all of whom believe that Cardinal O Brien has done their church and their ministry and enormous injury with his ‘declaration of war’, which these kind men believe is not in the way of Jesus.

Why am I reminded of a Supertramp album entitled “Crisis? What Crisis?”

    1. And while we’re on Supertramp, here are a few lyrics for the catholic fun dies from ‘Take the long way home’

Does it feel that you life’s become a catastrophe? Oh, it has to be for you to grow, boy. When you look through the years and see what you could have been oh, what might have been, if you’d had more time.

So, when the day comes to settle down, Who’s to blame if you’re not around? You took the long way home You took the long way home………..

  9. About “The reform, opposed by more than 1,000 mayors and France’s Catholic Church, will be debated by parliament in January 2013” … rather than just copying literally and pasting from other news outlets, PinkNews , balancing information for your readers might be useful too.

Nowhere has anyone added that France has about 36000 mayors ! so in relative terms, 3% of mayors oppose it, which is laughable.

Copying and pasting sensationalist / incomplete information is not the hallmark of a great news service.

  10. ...Paddyswurds 10 Nov 2012, 12:00pm

It say my comment is duplicate but then shows neither…???

  11. The past few weeks I participate in this forum, as a tiny little voice from EU’s southeastern corner, Greece. Here, not only papers run by the Church (these, I cannot imagine) but also TV channels “neglect” to comment on what is happening accross Europe and in the USA, mainly because Greece remains as impermeable as an old, well formed cyst in a body. Only newspapers, mostly in the middle or left on the political map and of course the Net, which is a great school for gays mension those news. Not only trashy right papers, but also mainstream ones, would comment -if so- negatively on the impact on the family, the dechristianization and dehellenization of Greece, they whould speculate conspiracies etc. Most of the mass media here is trash…

Lucetta Scaraffia is a woman, a part of mankind that, for a long time, has not been a favourite of the Vatican, so why is she coming to the rescue of these misogynists?

  13. Daniel Pitt 10 Nov 2012, 6:46pm

This further evidences the typical theocratic reaction to the progress of our evolving world. Burying their heads in the sand only serves to stoke further ridicule at their irrelevance.
