There is no evidence to suggest that hatecrimes are on the rise in Kemp Town.
It specifically says that there is increased petty crime, vagrancy and public drunkenness.
Two weeks ago I was shocked to receive a torrent of abuse (not homophobic abuse incidentally) when I refused to give money to a drunk beggar outside the supermarket.
Abuse is abuse . . . whether you feel it’s homophobic or not and should still be reported . . .
I’ve been abused (both homophobic and none) and not reported either . . . however, the police NEED to know where the areas are where individuals are suffering from abuse – whatever that may be, so they can direct resources to those areas.
There’s no point them directing foot patrols to the city centre, if Kemp Town is the ares they need to have police on patrol.
I blame the opponents of equal marriage for fanning the flames of homophobia, in particular senior churchmen spouting venom on the front pages of the press.
But also the government for not seeing that coming, as a result of their ” consultation”; and inevitably we see the same thing happening in France now, no doubt egged on by the Vatican.
whether its north or south…all the Gay area’s are being taken over by straights whether it be hen parties mostly….its not enjoyable for a gay man to the gay area’s anymore….
Yes, we posted 18 months ago on this thread, that we were accosted by some rude burly person as we walked by Atlingworth Street toward Kemp Town, although he hurled a couple of punches, they did not connect, and we just ran.
Last time I was in Brighton, all the gays were safely locked away behind gates (for their ridiculously pricey pride) and the streets were full of heterosexuals and drunk teenagers. It was easy to see then where Brighton is going.
Lack of sufficient policing is a countrywide problem. On which grounds do the ‘precious’ homosexual brigade believe that the area they frequent is deserving of special consideration?
I was in Brighton for Pride weekend with a large group of friends.
One of them was rather nastily mugged in James St on Pride night.
Quite a few people in that group won’t be returning to Brighton because of this.

And where does he want the beggars and street drinkers to go to? Not to his back yard obviously :(
He sounds like the new Tory Whip who says that “the homeless are what you step over when you come out of the opera.”
