The man is as crooked as a barrel of fish hooks. The entire government is utterly corrupt from the top down. South Africa is spinning uncontrollably into terminal decline, and it won’t be log before it goes the way of Zimbabwe.

Once Mandela dies, there will be a bloodbath of monumental proportions as the whites are forced out of the country and everyone else just rips the place apart.

    1. The government’s always been corrupt. No worse now than under apartheid, and no worse then than under colonialism. At least now the corruption is out in the public and reported in the media (until the press-gag law comes in).

  2. Zuma’s still suing Shapiro for 2 other cartoons, tho. So the lawyers are still billing and the cartoonist is still feeling political pressure.

Not sure whether Zuma will pay the bills from his own pocket or just fom he treasury. So much for the vaunted constitution.

Like Spanner1960 and many other people I too fear for South Africa when Nelson Mandela is no longer around, looking over the shoulders of it’s leaders. Jacob Zuma has criticized gays in the past although he has moderated his views in recent years, going as far as calling for the release of the two men who were jailed in Malawi for staging a gay wedding. The ruling African National Congress now enjoys the support of the overall majority of the electorate and during the last election they were just shy of the 2/3 of the vote which could have enabled them to alter the South African Constitution in which I believe that LGBT rights are enshrined. Because of this I feel that while the ANC may continue to govern the country it’s support should never become too strong otherwise it will set South Africa on the same downward spiral as Zimbabwe.

Sorry, I don’t understand how this is a gay news story.
    What am I missing?

  5. So Zuma is against same-sex marriage. I thought the anti-equality lot were always going on about marriage being one man and one woman not one man and six women. And some of them even try to claim that legalising SSM will lead to polygamy. Looks like Zuma missed out the middle step already….

  6. Most of the comments about SA here are utter nonsense. How on earth can a frail old man like Mandela be responsible for halting the descent of the country into chaos. And SA will never become like Zimbabwe. It has an enviable constitution, free and fair elections and a robust civil society. Sure it has problems: the same problems that any emerging economy has. But these are not insurmountable. A better and more informed view of the current situation in SA is this: http://www.bdlive.co.za/opinion/2012/10/28/don-t-stress-about-us-in-sa
