The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation after a man died at a gay sauna in central London during the weekend.

The incident happened at the Pleasuredrome sauna on Cornwall Road in Waterloo.

Several other individuals were taken unwell at around the same time.

Paramedics were called to the venue at 8.15am on Saturday following reports that three men had collapsed.

A Met spokeswoman confirmed on Monday that one man had died and that a 46-year-old remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A third man, a 34-year-old, is expected to make a full recovery.

The spokeswoman said the cause of death was yet to be confirmed and that a post-mortem was due to be carried out.

However, reports suggest the incident was drug-related, with one source saying the men became ill after been given a substance.

Earlier this year, police issued a warning to recreational drug users after a similar incident in Vauxhall, south London, where a man collapsed in a gay club and died after taking a substance reported to have been a “white powder”.
