  1. It’s about time institutions stopped scaring people by using pseudoscientific research. Tens of millions of bottles of poppers are sold every year and are one of the safest recreational drugs available. Some people find it hard to have sex without them and poppers are part of a healthy sex life for many people. I’ve sniffed poppered nearly every day for the last twenty years and I’m fine, despite what these so called scientists think they don’t cause aids, karpoisis sarcoma, blindness, or cancer! or anything else they’ve been blamed for, for that matter-so piss off demonising the gay community and their lifestyle, because poppers is part of the gay lifestyle and long may it remain so!

    1. Poppers are pure evil. Every time when I used to use them, I’d get horrible chemical burns around my nose. Contact with with skin burns you, they’re highly corrosive, yet you reckon inhaling bottles of the stuff is harmless. What planet do you live on?

        Agree with, Mike.

They’re also potentially lethal for anyone with high blood pressure. A number of deaths over the years have been attributed to them. One recently in Ireland there a gay guy collapsed while talking with his boyfriend on the phone as he was sniffing poppers.

In 1995, I came across a guy dead in the toilets in central London, beside him a bottle of poppers.

I actually love using them, but there are risks, potentially lethal ones at that, to deny they don’t exist or claim this study to be a slur on gay people is sheer madness.

Well apart from being highly toxic, carcinogenic, corrosive and liable to cause hypoxia, headaches, erectile problems, asphyxia, arrhythmias, cardiovascular depression, carbon monoxide poisoning, hepatorenal toxicity, mucosal skin irritation and facial dermatitis, and if taken with Viagra can kill you stone dead, yes they are virtually harmless.

    3. May be worth mentioning some really good poppers are available from http://www.redlighttrading.com Don’t forget a ‘Popper a day keeps the Doctor away’…

  2. I KNEW you weren’t supposed to pour poppers into your eyes!

  3. Agree with Rik.
This is junk science and the usual drugs hysteria.
Also, the LGF “Survey” is laughably inaccurate – but just the sort of scare-mongering you might make up if you were trying to get more lottery funding to fight this “drugs menace in our midst”…

    1. Spot on ! In my experience they are nasty and pretty lethal ! But no one but an moron in a hurry is going to get actually harmed by their use !

  4. they’ve been trying to make them totally illegal for years and as a result the formula to them has changed in the last few years to try and avoid this. This has made the products very different from what they were before. They don’t have the same lasting effect when you sniff them, the buzz from them is very short and once they’re open they don’t last very long. At least they don’t burn the nose like they did once when the formula was being messed around with. The only side effect I have from them is the occasional headache, it’s usually a sign to give them a rest before using them again.

  5. Drug users are losers.

Ouch. Does that include me for my Caffe Nero workday mornings? Or the glasses of wine I sometimes take with dinner? What a loser eh?

Normal adjusted secure people do not seekrecreational harmful highs. DRUG ABUSE ALCOHOL ABUSE and self abuse are par for the course in the hedonist, deviant society.

You can talk. Since when did “normal adjusted secure people” waste their lives trolling web forums?

    2. Your back.
      Lovely.

  7. yes they can burn nostrils you r supposed to inhale them. my GP advised never to take with viagara as can cause a severe drop in blood pressure. H ey still lotsa fun and yes formula has changed dont last like they used too,

The truth is people are never going to stop taking drugs and if research suggest that gays use more recreational drugs more often than other people then it is down to the fact that we do not normally have children or other such responsibilities. People do need to be aware what different drugs may and can do to you and therefore we should be able to make an informed choice about whether or not we decide to take drugs. All drugs carry some risk – and alcohol is no exception.

  9. Perhaps people don’t know the full story behind “poppers,”

Originally these were amyl nitrate ampules that would be broken and sniffed, thus increasing the blood vessel diameters of patients suffering with angina (before nitro glycerine capsules was introduced as a quick symptom remedy).

In their newer bastardized forms (butyl amyl nitrite, etc. – creating the different aromas) these have a similar effect but but with people huffing heavily on them, not only do they dilate the blood vessels (this allowing more oxygen to the brain – hence the “rush” obtained), they also dilate even the tiniest capilaries in the brain – leaving little hemorrhages (bleeding), So not only are you killing brain cells (which don’t replace themselves), they also increase the chance for strokes.

Like playing Russian Roulette by having unsafe sex, poppers could make you wished you’d been more careful too. Long term use may not cause cancer as has been suggested but it could lead to a brain aneurysm… FYI

This is news? My Doctor in Boston, Massachusetts in the 70s told me that at very least poppers would cause Glaucoma and would eventually affect my eyesight. Some people would be more susceptible than others according to the New England Journal of medicine. However he also said that if i smoked Marijuana, which I did, it would counteract the adverse affect of the Amyl Nitrate… So far at 61 i have the normal eyesight of a sixty year old.

  11. I love jenray.com for poppers, right now they have a promo with edge magazine for 20% off: Letsbang20.
