A transgender student in Maryland was suspended last week from school for getting into a fight after a fellow student allegedly assaulted her.

According to the Washington Blade, the student, identified only as “Dee” fought back after another female student reportedly called her a “tranny faggot” and pulled her hair.

The fight happened earlier this month on 11 October when Dee was involved in a drink-throwing incident in the school cafeteria while standing up for a gay classmate who was receiving abuse.

Both students were immediately suspended as fighting is a Category One offence in the Baltimore County Public Schools Code of Conduct.

Charles Herndon, a spokesperson for Baltimore County Public Schools, told the Washington Blade: “The school investigated the incident thoroughly and it appeared that sexual orientation did not provoke this incident.”
