Every time I read anything about this story, midway through I am overwhelmed with just how pathetic these people are being.
What exactly is so special about the bloody scouts that the sky will fall in if a few gay people join>
The major anti-gay and anti-atheist sentiment in Boy Scouting comes from the high influence of Mormons in the organization and its current roots in conservatism. The Mormons, who are doctrinally anti-gay and anti-nonchristian, donate millions of dollars a year to the organization, which forces the organization to maintain its current position.
I wonder if Deron Smith would have doen the same thing without the prublic outrage. All the same, it beats taking no action at all.
The thing that I find so surprising about this is that it’s completely unreasoned and undisguised bigotry – how audacious to be able to literally say “no, because you’re gay.” In most other cases, there’s at least some shred of an excuse!

Actually, in Canada, a closed file covering the years from about 1955 – 85 (I may be wrong – don`t quote the dates!) is about to be opened regarding suppressed cases of molestations. Apparently the Boy Scouts admin has kept them hidden for decades. This was on the CBC news two evenings ago.

It would be interesting for Ryan to interview Mitt Romney and ask his opinion whether he should have been drummed out of the Scouts for being gay. The Mormons, along with the Catholics, are leading funders of the US Scouts, and drivers of their homophobic policy.
