  1. She should send a letter back with one word: “no”

    1. ChrisBChikin 17 Oct 2012, 10:01pm

If I was Madge I’d probably fly over there and stand trial. Such a high profile case would shine a much-needed spotlight on this law and the Russian legal system. If she’s found innocent then it ridicules the law; if she’s found guilty then she can probably leave Russia, refuse to pay and still ridicule the law. And she gets some publicity as well!

      1. Very well thought! Hope she does that – would bring shame to their legal system.

        1. They don’t have a legal system they have a dictatorship which means they don’t have any law except that of Putin and his thugs in uniforms.

      2. Problem is they would find her guilty anyway and try to make an example of her. I really can’t see her going back and besides, the video of her making the statements that she did would be used against her despite the fact that it highlights the idiocy of the law there.

    2. ...Paddyswurds 18 Oct 2012, 11:52am

…even better if she said “HeT”

  2. That There Other David 17 Oct 2012, 9:23pm

Oh yes Russian courts. We know how well they work don’t we?

She should tell them to go boil their stupid heads….with cabbage.

    1. What a waste of cabbage!

  3. “moral suffering”

    oh please

the only people suffering are the lgbt people whose lives they’re ruined with these hateful laws

  4. If I was Madonna I’d have two word for the f*** and off! Morons.

    1. Well, it’s three words in Russian, not two: Пошёл на хуй!

So, Madge, cut ‘n’ paste that. I’ll waive my fee for the translation. :)

      1. Lol Thank you haha.
But if you ask me looks like the Russian Mob is trying to shake her down. This looks like something that would happen in the 60’s or 70’s here with one of the Usa Mafia’s…

  5. Maybe they should try and extradite her Ha Ha.

  6. Madonna packed off to a forced labour camp for a few years with the pussy riot girls, I can’t see it happening myself.
The influence of the Russian Orthodox Church is way out of order.

    1. Christopher in Canada 18 Oct 2012, 12:34am

So much for Putin following the official edicts of his former employers when the Soviets tried outlawing the church!

      1. John Jones 18 Oct 2012, 8:18am

What, you mean the same Soviets who, whilst banning the Church, also criminalised homosexuality altogether — calling it decadent, bourgoise, and western?

        1. The persecuted Church is a myth !!! Stalin found many allies in church !!!

  7. Isn’t it sad that you can call yourself an anti-gay activist without any shame whatsoever? Thousands of years and we’re still so defined by our tendency towards hatred. I’m not a fan of Madonna’s music, but I absolutely love her for what she’s doing and I hope that everyone vows to defy the summons.

  8. LOL!!!, that is all that i can say.

  9. She could always hole up in the Ecuadorian embassy

  10. Like Kenny Everett told the Tory Conference, “Let’s Bomb Russia!” Lol!

  11. Er, Madonna who?

    1. Madonna (born Madonna Louise Ciccone /tʃɪˈkoʊneɪ/ chi-koh-nay; August 16, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, director, dancer, and entrepreneur. She has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world’s best-selling female recording artist in history by Guinness World Records. Considered to be one of the “25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century” by Time for being an influential figure in contemporary music, she is known for continuously reinventing both her music and image, and for retaining a standard of autonomy within the recording industry. Critics have praised her diverse musical productions which have also been known to induce controversy. (wiki)

…..” American singer, songwriter, actress, director, dancer, and entrepreneur” The only part of that comment that is indisputable is that she is American and entrepreneur. The rest is stretch it a bit and You could have added “self styled singer etc.. More of a circus act than any of the descriptives you used, Pavlos. you are being way too charitable.
“musical productions which have also been known to induce controversy” … and torpor in many who were inadvertently exposed to her drivel… Frankly I can’t stand the woman.

        1. I think it’s admirable that despite how crippling your lack of approval must be to her confidence she struggles bravely on. A remarkable woman.

    2. Your sourness seems to grow daily. One day you might wake up, look in the mirror and actually see a lemon.

  12. Cardinal Capone 18 Oct 2012, 1:09am

    “Ra Ra Ras- Putin.
    Lover of the Russian queen”

    -Boney M.

  13. I see there are some dedicated individuals in Russia who are determined to make satire redundant.

  14. Madonna should go to the United Nations Human Rights Commission and the International Court of Justice and have a counter claim against human rights abuses in Russia! How long would that list be?

    1. None of those bodies work as you suggest. The ECHR would be suitable, but takes at least 3 years. No doubt someone else will take this homophobic law there first though.

  15. Bill (Scotland) 18 Oct 2012, 8:23am

It would be interesting to see how an attempt to have her extradited to Russia to answer this court summons would be treated by the US authorities, assuming she declines to go voluntarily (as she would certainly be mad not to).

    1. Yes indeed.

  16. Like she is likely to return and even if they applied for extradition, I would hope that the US authorities would laugh at the Russians.

    1. ...Paddyswurds 18 Oct 2012, 12:04pm

American citizens cannot be extradited by law. It’s part of their constitution….. The Russians can however prosecute her in the US courts but I somehow can’t see that move ever being successful.

      1. Wrong on both counts.

    2. As inclined as I am to agree with your comments… make a stand not to go drawing more attention to the anti-gay law as a result. The level of homophobia in the USA we know christian groups and others who would support her extradition!

I would say “Madge… flip them the bird” sure Madonna may never go to Russia again, but the attention it would draw to her protest to the injustice of this contentious law would be world wide and amply justified.

  17. LOL. Good luck with that.

  18. Good for Her – My estimation of this singer has risen even higher – I hope this shuts up those fair weather critics who are ready to slag her off at the drop of a hat –

An amazing independent woman – Respect to her.

  19. Staircase2 18 Oct 2012, 3:15pm

The words ‘bloody’ and ‘idiots’ spring to mind…

  20. Lets ALL GO to Russia with Madonna
    Thousands of us

    1. and in so doing boost their tourism industry ?? the ONLY effective way is to hit Russians where it hurts, like any other country: in their pockets. total boycott. goods, services, etc…

  21. John - Brighton 19 Oct 2012, 12:55am

I’d start a case against those who illegally videoed her concert. Secondly, leave them well alone – don’t give them the dignity of her even acknowledging their stand.
Now surely must be the time the IOC cancel the Russian Winter Olympics – it would be unsafe for any gay athlete to even turn up. That is not within the realms of free and fair competition.
