If I was Madge I’d probably fly over there and stand trial. Such a high profile case would shine a much-needed spotlight on this law and the Russian legal system. If she’s found innocent then it ridicules the law; if she’s found guilty then she can probably leave Russia, refuse to pay and still ridicule the law. And she gets some publicity as well!

      Post a reply →
      1. Very well thought! Hope she does that – would bring shame to their legal system.

They don’t have a legal system they have a dictatorship which means they don’t have any law except that of Putin and his thugs in uniforms.

Problem is they would find her guilty anyway and try to make an example of her. I really can’t see her going back and besides, the video of her making the statements that she did would be used against her despite the fact that it highlights the idiocy of the law there.

    1. Well, it’s three words in Russian, not two: Пошёл на хуй!

So, Madge, cut ‘n’ paste that. I’ll waive my fee for the translation. :)

But if you ask me looks like the Russian Mob is trying to shake her down. This looks like something that would happen in the 60′s or 70′s here with one of the Usa Mafia’s…

Isn’t it sad that you can call yourself an anti-gay activist without any shame whatsoever? Thousands of years and we’re still so defined by our tendency towards hatred. I’m not a fan of Madonna’s music, but I absolutely love her for what she’s doing and I hope that everyone vows to defy the summons.

She has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world’s best-selling female recording artist in history by Guinness World Records. Considered to be one of the “25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century” by Time for being an influential figure in contemporary music, she is known for continuously reinventing both her music and image, and for retaining a standard of autonomy within the recording industry. @Pavlos…
…..” American singer, songwriter, actress, director, dancer, and entrepreneur” The only part of that comment that is indisputable is that she is American and entrepreneur. The rest is stretch it a bit and You could have added “self styled singer etc.. More of a circus act than any of the descriptives you used, Pavlos. you are being way too charitable.
“musical productions which have also been known to induce controversy” … and torpor in many who were inadvertently exposed to her drivel… Frankly I can’t stand the woman.

    1. None of those bodies work as you suggest. The ECHR would be suitable, but takes at least 3 years. No doubt someone else will take this homophobic law there first though.

It would be interesting to see how an attempt to have her extradited to Russia to answer this court summons would be treated by the US authorities, assuming she declines to go voluntarily (as she would certainly be mad not to).

American citizens cannot be extradited by law. It’s part of their constitution….. The Russians can however prosecute her in the US courts but I somehow can’t see that move ever being successful.

As inclined as I am to agree with your comments… make a stand not to go drawing more attention to the anti-gay law as a result. The level of homophobia in the USA we know christian groups and others who would support her extradition!

I would say “Madge… flip them the bird” sure Madonna may never go to Russia again, but the attention it would draw to her protest to the injustice of this contentious law would be world wide and amply justified.

I’d start a case against those who illegally videoed her concert. Secondly, leave them well alone – don’t give them the dignity of her even acknowledging their stand.
Now surely must be the time the IOC cancel the Russian Winter Olympics – it would be unsafe for any gay athlete to even turn up. That is not within the realms of free and fair competition.
