Freddie Mercury film to be released in 2014
Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed more details about the upcoming biopic into the life of the band’s late frontman, Freddie Mercury.
In a statement on his website, May confirmed that the film should be ready for release in early 2014.
He said the production is “on course” and even though they started slightly later than anticipated.
May has also confirmed that Mercury will be played by Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen.
May said that he had a meeting with Queen drummer Roger Taylor and long-time manager Jim Beach earlier this week to discuss how they would be involved in the making of the film.
May said even though it’s been 20 years since their beloved band mate passed away, he is still “very much alive” for all of them, adding that Mercury “must be wryly smiling somewhere.”
The biopic is being scripted by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan, who was behind the movies The Queen and Frost/Nixon.
Mercury died from an AIDS-related illness in 1991.
