  1. This kind of irresponsible, belligerent language is going to get someone killed. “Foxholes”? “Frontlines”? Someone even more unhinged than Santorum is going to pick up on this language and act out his militarist fantasy.

    1. It’s his church lingo. They’ve been using those sort of buzz words since The Crusades – Lol

    2. johnny33308 11 Oct 2012, 5:14pm

This kind of language has already gotten many LGBTIQ people killed….and it will cause the murders of many more before this ‘war’ is over and marriage equality becomes the new world standard…those resisting this evolution of consciousness haven’t got a chance of ‘winning’ this battle….love will triumph over hatred and bigotry as it always does. History will record this final battle against ignorance, hatred and bigotry as the final battle in a very long ‘war’ that will allow mankind to finally prosper by joining ALL humans together in a way that is evolutionary as well as revolutionary. When we finally realize that we are in fact, all the same, and are in truth, One family….everything, and I mean everything will change for our species, and it will herald a flowering of Humanity, a true golden age for mankind. A new world is about to be born, and ideas like bigotry, prejudice, hatred, greed and other such negative prehistoric perpectives and beliefs will dissolve into dust.

      1. johnny33308, did you bring enough to share? I don’t mean to sound like a nay-sayer, but alot of what you said is a pipe dream. Bigotry will always exist. Religions will always disagree. I will however look forward with hope.

        1. johnny33308 12 Oct 2012, 10:50pm

some of us must dream or our species is finished, and I choose to believe that “the beginning is near” not the end, and not ‘business as usual’…..the ‘old’ ways are finished and soon those that believe those prehistoric ideas about using/abusing others will disappear like the dinosaurs they truly are….and the world will be healed from the effects of thousands of years of fear…..it will happen….and yes, I have enough to share, and then some more, for love really is limitless….”We create the world with our thoughts”…The Buddha

  2. “This issue will destroy and undermine the church in America”…….one can only hope…

    1. That was an attack on the whole of Europe!!! What a dangerous man he would be in power.

      1. Santorum is American Arrogance at its worst.

  3. He forgot to mention the earthquakes and plagues of locusts that it would also cause.

    1. That’s funny. Santorum is so stupid, I’ll bet his own mother is embarrassed by his speeches.

      1. I doubt it! She probably encourages him. After all, he had to have learned his hatred from somewhere

  4. GingerlyColors 11 Oct 2012, 7:27am

Rick Santorum is part of a dying breed. A recent survey has shown that Protestants (those who adhere to Christian demoninations other than Catholics) are no longer in the majority and one in five Americans have no religious affiliation. Of the rest who make up a little over 1/4 of the population most of them are Catholics while the remainder are Jewish, Muslim or other faiths. About one-half of Americans regularly attend church or other religious services but that number is falling. Meanwhile support for marriage equality throughout the USA is increasing, mainly on the seaboards and in the north but it will be while before the ‘Bible Belt’ rural Mid-West finally come round to our way of thinking.

  5. Sanatorium is a Catholic. What else do you expect from him.

  6. Go on Santorum, speak out more loudly: the more you do, the more bonkers you will seem, and the more damage you’ll do to your insane ’cause.’

  7. All this was said about the prospect of inter-racial marriage. American Blacks, please take note.

  8. Move along folks. Nothing to see here. Just a poor old confused man

  9. I live for the day that they realise that they are damaging the family themselves with this vile rhetoric.

They really are becoming tiresome and boring now.

  10. How ridiculous to state same sex marriage will destroy churches! Old men rattling on like this is what is destroying churches. Christian churches have two reasons for existence and those reasons are for worship of Jesus Christ and for its members to form a relationship with Him. I think that these basic reasons has been forgotten in the grab for power by those in the hierarchy of the church at large.

  11. Don’t think him stupid, he is playing up to people’s irrational fears in the hope it will effect the vote of people on the fence, they may choose him just in case he is right.

    I hope it doesn’t work.

  12. Mumbo Jumbo 11 Oct 2012, 9:36am

He appears to be having some sort of brownout.

  13. This is the hysteria of the loser.
They aren’t in foxholes. They just listen to Fox News.

  14. This guy is creepy and weird. I suspect he has issues on a personal leevl to deal with. I hope he manages to sort himself out.

  15. Lots of gas and slippery slopes here.

    My response: how exactly?

  16. Jesus Mohammed 11 Oct 2012, 11:12am

Yeah, Rick, right on! The sky will fall in and we’ll be DOOMED! DOOMED!

  17. I clicked on this story hoping that eventually someone will of explain HOW exactly the introduction of equal marriage would or could result in the destruction of family and church.
But unsurprisingly, no such explanation given, yet again. Its time these people were completely ignored. They’re not backing up their claims with any jot of explanation! And its getting really tiresome. Explain yourselves or shut up!!

  18. That There Other David 11 Oct 2012, 11:27am

*points and laughs at Rick Santorum*

    What other response is needed?

  19. I detest Santorum – he’s a lying snake of a man. How on earth can equal marriage “disintegrate” American families? It won’t – it’ll simply show up all these anti-equality ‘facts’ for what they are: blatant lies.

““[Secularism will] destroy the institutions of America’s foundation”

Funny that because I’m sure that the US constitution promises freedom FROM religion not freedom for one religion to impose its will on the country. Another lie.

“Mr Santorum talked about the “normalisation, acceptance, tolerance,” of LGBT people since the 1990s”

And that’s a BAD thing?? What a sick, sick man to wish that discrimination and hate against LGBT people will continue.

    1. What a sick, sick man to wish that discrimination and hate against LGBT people will continue.

It’s just so Christian of him, isn’t it?

      1. Indeed… Like so very many ‘christians’ sadly who focus more on hate and marginalisation of other human beings.

To give him his due, he doesn’t just want to treat LGBT people as inferior, he seems to think women should know their place too:

““Radical feminists have been making the pitch that justice demands that men and women be given an equal opportunity to make it to the top in the workplace.”

Yes, that scary ‘radical’ word to describe people who only want to be treated as equal human beings. Pathetic.

  20. Like it has next door in Canada.

    1. ...Paddyswurds 11 Oct 2012, 7:30pm

Ditto in Massachusetts, the first State to enact Marriage Equality. still waiting for the sky to fall there…. There is only one thing going to destroy Churches and that is the hatred and bigotry of the members of such churches…..

  21. I suspect those pesky ”smart people” and those ”college graduates” are behind this conspiracy to destroy marraige !!!

  22. Robert in S. Kensington 11 Oct 2012, 12:50pm

What an idiot! If anything is destroying churches and the family, he should ask his fellow catholic hetero serial adulterer, Newt Gingrich, 3 times married, one of many conservatives who’ve followed suit while declaring the sanctity of marriage between one man and woman, in his case, three. Hypocrisy and bigotry seem to be gaining momentum in the republican party under the guise of religion. Something we’re seeing in the Tory party.

  23. David Nottingham 11 Oct 2012, 12:56pm

I am sick, sick (and thrice sick) of hearing this nonesensical rhetoric from the likes of Santorum, our UK Archbishops, various primates within Rome and our other rather more whaky right-wing church leaders. They tell us over and over again that equal marriage will destroy churches, families, marriages and even society but still don’t tell us precisely HOW! Will someone please tell us, that way we can have a reasonable levelled debate and perhaps save these people from themselves (and probably win a few round)

    1. That There Other David 11 Oct 2012, 1:28pm

The conditioned don’t need to ask how or why. They only need faith that what they say is true. Comes with the territory I’m afraid.

      1. David Nottingham 11 Oct 2012, 2:46pm

Yes, I see what you mean!

  24. He said that Western European countries were “declining” because of “a secular revolution, a godless revolution”
    Um, hello. France much?
Since the 1790s, France has been a major player in Europe and across the world. Except that one time, when the guys with “Gott mit uns” written on their uniforms came along.
Regardless of how much the Pope supports it, I don’t think Ricky Sans would be too keen on saying that what those guys did would be a good thing for America.

  25. Santorum:
The frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex.
    http://spreadingsantorum.com/

  26. Not surprisingly, they are never able to say exactly how this damage will occur.

  27. Jeffery J. 11 Oct 2012, 2:49pm

There really are no words in the English or any language to convey what a loathsome man I find Santorum (and those like him) to be.

    1. Jeffery J. 11 Oct 2012, 2:52pm

One more thing. Tomorrow is the anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death–one of countless victims of antigay hate. Santorum’s words only add fuel to this deadly hatred, which makes the likes of him triply repulsive to me.

    2. That There Other David 11 Oct 2012, 3:15pm

Actually, thanks to Dan Savage, there is ;-)

In reality, what is happening is an evolution of human consciousness. People such as these whose ‘faith’ is threatened by this evolution are fighting it with every evil thought they have. If a small % of the 10% of LGBT people wish to marry, that cannot in any way ‘threaten’ marriage, but bolster it. These dinosaurs will become extinct as all before them have done, so we will achieve marriage equality regardless of the machinations of people such as this extreme fundamentalist American Taliban member. They cannot prohibit or prevent evolution no matter how much they wish to do so. The beginning is near, dear ones, and it will be wonderful for all whose hearts are filled with love…those whose hearts are filled with something else will become extinct as evolution bypasses them, leaving them in the dust of history while Humanity evolves to a higher level of consciousness. Have no fear, mankind shall overcome people such as this…it is as inevitable as evolution itself…

    1. Religion was ultimately doomed when DNA was discovered – it’s all just a waiting game really – scientists know that – thinking people know that.

  29. Marriage in the U.S. is disintegrating all on its own as we have a divorce rate of 52%. Their religion says marriage is to be for life. So who is doing the damage here?

  30. Santorum makes equality sound like a powerful laser heat weapon of destruction.

  31. I don’t know if this was reported in Britain …

Santorum and his wife had a stillborn premature baby. Before allowing the undertaker to collect it OR enbalm it, they took it home to “introduce” their “baby sister” to the rest of the children; then they slept with the tiny corpse between them!

The Catholic Church was notably silent about this (the Santorums, unsurprisingly, are Catholics of the Crusades epoch).

  32. like it has in Canada?

  33. he live in the Darkness of the past, Hate leaves you cold, alone and empty. rick santorum ;( this is sad and too sick for words;(((((

  34. Spanner1960 12 Oct 2012, 12:53am

It’s crap statements like that that explain precisely why you are an EX senator.

You are 200 years out of date.

  35. How? That’s all.

  36. When ever I hear any comments made by this man I am reminded of comments made by an old co-worker.

He didn’t suffer fools lightly and always used to say “An EX is a has been!” and you frequently find that “Experts in life… are in reality nothing more than drips under pressure”

Those comments resonate with me every time I hear see this man getting attention in the media.

  37. If your family and marriage falls apart Mr Santorum it’ll be because there’s something wrong with your relationship, not the fact your government grants equal marriage!!! Don’t blame your family issues on us thank you very much!

  38. Would it now? I suppose it would also cause earthquakes, tidal waves, stock market crashes, invasion by a plague of mutant locusts…. yeah, heard it all before…

    Next.

    Be quiet you silly man.

  39. Oh bloody hell, I thought we’d heard the last from him
