  1. The parents of these children should be prosecuted for child abuse and the children taken into protective custody and given real psychological care.

    1. Midnighter 5 Oct 2012, 4:27pm

Quite right. What an utterly grotesque piece of manipulation to use these children in such a manner.

  2. human rights trump religious rights. remove those boys from their parents’ homes!!

  3. David Nottingham 5 Oct 2012, 3:47pm

Yes, these boys need to removed from their parents’ care, assessed professionally and treated for any emotional damage that already been done. And, if requested by the boys, they should be given the opportunity for gay assurance therapy. Only this course of action will allow the State of California to be completely confident that it did the right thing for these two; to give them confidence and pride for who they are and live stable and fulfilled lives as human beings.

  4. Those children should be immediately removed from this toxic environment and criminal proceedings brought against the parents and psychiatrists.

    1. it isn’t psychiatrists – it would be unethical for any doctor to do this with L or G children (although no problem, still, with Trrans children who are still “no account”) – but psychologists, and then only those who are not members of any professional body with an ethics manual. Unfortunately many psychologists are that unethical.

What do you mean, Trans children who are still “no account.” I’m not sure what you’re implying with this phrase. When you have this mixed trans-behavior, how does this differ in sexual behavior of pure homosexual behavior? If a youngster is truly unhappy with his homosexual behavior , what option does he have? Are there any psychiatrists who are qualified to speak to the unhappiness of the child or do they take the position, “Once gay, always gay” So what does this do for the feelings of someone who truly does not like his homosexuality?
It seems like it’s a hopeless feeling for these youngsters. And their unhappiness cannot always be categorized that society is making him/her feel unhappy. The sexual desires and sexual maturation is something that very few psychiatrist deeply understand yet.

  5. All this underlines the fact that religious belief is a mental illness, and in the case of the parents of these boys a serious mental illness.

    1. Mike Myers 18 Mar 2013, 7:39pm

What an idiotic comment. So billions of people across the world are mentally ill? You are a disgusting person.

I would be surprised if ten years from now these boys aren’t suing their parents and/or therapists for what they’ve been subjecting them to.

The poster boy for this sort of treatment years ago actually committed suicide.

    1. I can well imagine things being worse for these boys than it is for most other victims, since these two will grow up knowing that have campaigned to have others suffer the same fate as them, and to provide legal protections for those that carry out such abuse.

    2. If truth be told, that poster boy was supposedly treated to prevent him becoming transsexual, not gay, although all the kids recruited to the programme were gay, since the psychologists were totally incompetent as well as evil. The advertising was aimed at parents afraid their boys were behaving like girls, and the idea was to make them act like boys. To get them playing ball games for example.

Which makes it all the more sick that this new law – just as do the professional bodies’ ethics codes – allow conversion therapy against trans kids to continue quite unhindered. Just as the APA is set to continue labeling trans kids as mentally disordered for another decade or more.

  7. “two southern California boys, aged 14 and 15, who have been undergoing so-called “reparative therapy” with psychologist Joseph Nicolosi.”

Poor things. How horrible to be at the mercy of such an infamous bigot and his hate organisation.

It always makes me upset to read stories like this as either those boys have been so brainwashed they actually believe there’s something wrong with them, or they’re doing it to try to gain their parents’ approval. Psychologically damaging and very cruel.

  8. Guglielmo Marinaro 5 Oct 2012, 5:59pm

There is no parental right to children of a particular sexual orientation, nor is there any parental right to send children who are (or might be) gay to be psychologically abused. As for the teenagers themselves, whereas adults can please themselves about whether to submit to useless and harmful hocus-pocus, minors must be protected.

  9. Bring it on

  10. I’ve looked at the “Liberty Counsel” website to see what they have to say about this new law.
I can’t imagine how a person or group can be so deliberately deceptive in so many places, and actually get away with it. I hope it’s ok to link it here, since there is no way to point out and correct all the errors they’ve made without writing a book.

  11. I watched “Prayers for Bobby” today.
This story is so much like that, it makes me sick.

  12. “The suit claims the ban, scheduled to take effect on 1 Jan 2013, violates the teens’ freedom of speech and freedom of religion by denying them the chance to be cured of “unwanted same-sex attraction.”
The problem is it’s the PARENTS that don’t want it, and the PARENTS that force their children to go though it. It’s not taking away freedom from teenagers, it’s giving them protection from (sadly) their own families.

    1. “The PARENTS that don’t want it” meaning “unwanted same-sex attraction”

  13. I think the law is a fantastic one but the elephant in the room is that once these kids turn 18, if they are still in that self-hating environment, they’ll sign up for this therapy all over again. It should be banned for all ages as it doesn’t work, is destructive regardless of age and is unethical on so many levels. It is like a psychologist recommending exorcism for someone with epilepsy. In this day and age, this sort of thing is just laughable…if only it wasn’t so damaging.

  14. This is so bizarre.

What I don’t get is how can sexual orientations be linked to freedom of speech and freedom of religion ?

Do we say left handedness is connected to freedom of speech or religion. Of course no, it is a human trait that is shared by a certain group of humans.

What i find amazing is that California is so backward, ignorant and homophobic. When I lived in the USA California was, after Massachusetts, one of the most progressive States in the Union. The Abrahamic cults seem to have gotten a toe hold there they do not deserve, but I guess that is down to a few well heeled followers and is possibly no indicative of the demographic in general. California’s huge Gay population seem to be rather weak and ineffectual by comparison or is the problem down to fecklessness of today’s youth who are not as politically astute as the last generation…..

  16. Funny thing about lawsuits – they kind of demand that you offer proof to support your point. Even those who began this gay-cure bilge say that it’s nonsense. And a certain standard of expertise is required to give “expert” evidence.

I’m not sure how they intend to actually make their case.

Does it boil down to – ownership of children and the right to do whatever you want to them, even if it harms them (and those who offer this POV – that it causes harm – will have plenty of people willing to testify with data to back it up).

It comes down to, I guess, would we allow a christian parent to refuse an insulin dependent child their medication and “pray” for them instead. If the answer is “no” then the case automatically fails.

Parents should never be granted an automatic right to harm their kids – that they do it for the sake of dogma just makes it all the more depraved.

Are you saying that all homosexuals are happy and satisfied with their sexual desires? That a human being can look at him/herself and don’t like it that they are not attracted to the opposite sex is always an option. Nobody knows the deepest working of sexuality. How many psychiatrists are experts in sexuality? How many have worked with homosexuals deeply enough to truly understand the dynamics to make a categorically positive statement that sexual behavior/desires cannot be changed. I think there are many more studies/research to be done to find more facts about homosexualty.

  17. Unfortunately, after milking such cases for the misleading publicity, Nicolosi and his like will merely move to another state and continue as before, since parents will certainly travel for such “treatment”.

  18. isn’t it bizzarre that all these bigoted hate organisations all seam to either have or bleat on about Liberty whilst trying to deny their victims and enemies the right of liberty
