  1. I didn’t know mayors could marry people. Not sure I’d like Boris Johnson to marry me – no offence to him intended though.

French citizens are married by mayors or others so designated in the town halls of France. Civil marriage is the only one recognised in France, a religious solemnisation is optional after the civil ceremony and not mandatory. Something the UK should have adopted long ago.

The French system is great. The legal aspect of marriage is conducted by a legal entity with the framework of local government.

If you wish to have religious aspect to your “special day” then this happens after you are legally married. A true separation of Church and State.

It is this model that should be adopted Globally!

        1. Yes great system the current Civil Partnership means that if I die my estate goes to my parents and not my partner, so to get around this I had to pay 300 euros ! Fantastic system !

  2. All this opposition is rooted in the Catholic Church. Its the POPE-stupid! would sum it up perfectly.
If the pope turned round tomorrow and said he was suddenly in favour-they would all instantly change their views. Its amazing how the utterances of one old man could have such influence on weak minds! At least the Archbishop of Canterbury’s opinions are no more influential than the CofE!!

    1. I bet that’s true about the pope. It would be great if someone went through the entire system, then was voted in as pope, then came out as gay or bi.

Most incest is hetero, those cultures that still practice polygamy are hetero. Shall I blame those things on heterosexual marriage?

Or shall I point out that his argument is preposterous bilge with no foundation in actual reality?

The nations that allow polygamy under their legal code are amongst the most religious.

      1. …And for the most part the most institutionally homophobic too, which blasts a giant hole in this dumb argument, but like a zombie it’s the argument that refuses to die no matter how lame and lacking in brain function it is.

The Vatican (and it’s not alone) is fighting tooth and nail against everything we stand for and everything we want to become. Their ideology has no room for us, so they bully us and our allies intending to crush us and humiliate us, make us friendless, and make us disappear. They will not succeed but we must be ever-vigilant and keep fighting back alongside our people in Paris, London, New York, St Petersburg, Ukrain – all over.

    Really?
After how many times such a claim has been disproven by reality?

    1. Just what I thought – boring, isn’t it? I had to stifle a yawn reading such predictable cr*p again. It’s so funny how these people are blind to the stupidity of their argument.

Does this idiot not realize his entire bible is based on incest.

Indeed the 1st chapters of this drivel after appointing a rib from Adam to create his woman denote his rib woman having some conjugals with her son, in order to create the next generation.

And indeed, just whom did the next generation sh@g to create the next.

Incest all over the place I say.

  7. Oh I see, we’ve lost all grip on reality now.

I’ve given up remembering all the excuses you religious people will use to try and excuse yourself from having anything to do with anything other than a man/woman relationship or marriage.

What reason will it be next eh?
    “………………”
Oh please, I’ve heard that one before!

    Yes, heard that one too.

Incest is the very basis of this mans bible.

Didn’t Adam spout Eve from a rib.

They did the conjugal and produced a son.

With whom did that son then begat his brother.

    Eve of course. His mother.

    Ergo. Incest.

Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Exactly the same bilge we are hearing in the UK from the right religious nutters, CI/C4M and Cardinal O’Brien. The Vatican’s script is the same in every country where equal marriage has been legislated or about to be. Catholic loonies everywhere. I wish more of our politicians would go after them as they do in France.

These are the dying throes of Vatican Inc’s influence, at least in Western Europe. The constant child abuse revelations show this downright nasty bunch of power-hungry hypocrites up for who they really are. The Internet age prevents them from hushing up their crimes, their lies, and their money-grabbing ways as they’ve done for centuries. Eastern Europe is behind the curve, but give it another 10 years and their power will wane there too.

One day soon governments will go after all that tax the charlatans in purple have avoided paying too, at which point the whole thing will really begin to crumble.

Can’t happen quickly enough IMO. That organisation is a tool of evil, and its core is rotten.

He should really check his facts, because incest (between adults only) is completely LEGAL in France (as well as China, Argentina, Belgium, Portugal and Spain) – surprise, surprise!

In both France and Belgium (which was under french law at the time before independence) incest has been legal at the same time since gay sex or sodomy was legal – way back in 1789 under the new Napoleon Code. The tiny country of Andorra was affected by the Napoleon Code as well.

It is such an irrational statement to suggest that incest would be created by allowing same sex couple to marry. Let’s be honest here, the institution of marriage has not prevent incest from occurring within it own boundaries – think Austrian Basements. Why would allow same sex couple increase the instances of incest? Illogical argument designed to provoke hillbilly responses …

( a side thought – I wonder if all the same sex couples were legally recognised, what impact would this have on the tax collections of various nations )
