If he thinks this will make amending the constitution to ban gay marriage okay with the LGBT community, he’s on another planet. Paul Ryan should stop wasting his energy on pandering to a community that he has already chosen to side against, regardless of his personal views.
“… cohesion, recruitment, retention, violence and harassment, or morale were all unaffected by the repeal.” Much like the effect on ‘traditional’ marriage for countries who have enacted same sex marriage.
Unfortunately you are totally right Emma. Transgenders still get very little respect from the rest of the world, even when our gay, lesbian and bisexual pals get some respect. I am transgender myself, not American and don’t intend to serve in the military, but I can understand what it feels like to be excluded from the same rights that the rest of the population has access to. I even know a girl in the Internet called Jadis Argiope who served in the military in the United States but was expelled after coming out as transgender. I wish she could go back to serve in the military, if she still wishes to.
Reinstating the ban would be wrong but keeping it in the first place wasn’t. He admits he lost the battle but he still doesn’t admit he was wrong and that it’s better now, he just doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. What a great candidate you found yourself, Republican Party ! A coward who refuses to talk about the elephant in the room.
Will Paul Ryan accept that gay marriage will be here to stay should an amendment to the US Constitution force all 50 States to allow it? Change is happening and resistance to it is futile.
Why does anyone believe him? The republicans are one short election from bringing back DADT, repealing gay marriage in all states, banning women from having abortions even in dire circumstances and teaching creationism in all public schools.
Fortunately it now looks like the Teabaggers have nominated a pair of duds to stand against Obama and they haven’t a hope of being elected and the planet Earth and all on it will breath a deep sigh of relief….
Hmm, he wants to pay attention to the top of the ticket, cos Mitt Romney totally disagrees. Romney has said that he would like to reinstate DADT. Mind you, Romney changes his mind like most people change their underwear.
I particularly love – “And now — after repeal, you can be proud of serving your country, and be proud of who you are when in uniform.” – Yes, so proud of the country that refuses to acknowledge my love as being on the same level as everybody else’s… So proud of the fact that “who I am” entitles me to sub-par rights on relatively basic levels…

The ban on trans troops hasn’t been lifted – DADT only covered LGB troops. Trans troops are covered by different rules and still barred from serving.

“Re banning gay troops would be a step in the wrong direction.”
As would electing religious idiots like you into any position of power.

Little wonder, then why the Republican Party has an elephant as it’s symbol.

“resistance is futile you will be assimilated” LOL – how long before we are compared to the Borg?
“…they just didn’t think the timing of this was right to do this when our troops were in the middle of harm’s way in combat.”
Could you possibly tell us when it WOULD be right, considering you are constantly bombing the crap out of one country or another?

What’s the next stage?

Isn’t that what they said about Bush?
