Madonna no longer hip for Radio 1, says DJ Scott Mills

In an exclusive interview with PinkNews.co.uk, gay BBC Radio 1 afternoon presenter Scott Mill says the ‘Queen of Pop’, Madonna is no longer a cool artist for the station.

“I don’t think we play Madonna anymore and if you ask a 17-year-old about her, they go ‘don’t care’…it’s a sign of the times, things change, it’s a generational thing. I like Madonna, does a 17-year-old? [she’s] probably not at the top of their list”.

Scott continued: “And that’s horrible, but that is the way it is…and also youth audiences are so fickle in what they like and what they don’t like, and they’re quite opinionated, you just have got to keep on top of that”.

Madonna’s latest album MDNA flopped earlier this year. After briefly reaching No.1, the record made the biggest second week fall of any No.1 album in 21 years.

Earlier this summer, Sir Elton John labelled Madonna a “fucking fairground stripper” whose “career is over”.

The Rocket Man has repeatedly criticised the Material Girl for suggesting Lady Gaga’s 2011 track, Born This Way, is too similar to Madonna’s 1989 classic, Express Yourself.

In August, Madonna responded to Sir Elton’s onslaught by mockingly showering the pop veteran with kindness.

The latest feud between Sir Elton and Madonna dates back to January of this year, when the 54-year-old singer beat the 65-year-old in a song category at the Golden Globes.
