The New York Police Department is looking for a suspect responsible for a homophobic attack with a razor blade on a 22-year-old man inside a fast food restaurant in Manhattan.

According to the Associated Press, police say the incident occurred at 7pm Wednesday at a McDonald’s on West 3rd Street near New York University.

They say the suspect made anti-gay remarks which led to a physical confrontation between the two men.

Police say the suspect slashed the victim with the blade on the face, back, neck and elbow.

The victim required stitches for his injuries in hospital.

Detectives are looking for a black man, between 35-40 years old, around 5 feet 9 inches (175cm), who weighs between 300-350 pounds (150kg).

It is the same restaurant that was the scene of an anti-gay attack in 2011, when dancer Damian Furtch was brutally beaten by two men.

He reported the attack to police and posted disturbing images on his Facebook page showing severe cuts and bruising to his face.
