Celebrity Big Brother’s Julian Clary receives homophobic abuse on Twitter
Actor and comedian Julian Clary, who’s currently taking part in Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother, has been on the receiving end of inflammatory anti-gay remarks.
According to Unreality TV, derogatory words including “freak”, “faggot” and “arse bandit” have all been posted by trolls to his official Twitter account in the past few days.
The comments also criticize the star’s camp personality and his enjoyment of wearing make up.
“Julian Scary” and “fairy Clary” have also been used as taunts.
Some of the language appears to suggest Clary should be subjected to physical harm, with one user stating that he should be “shot” – others say he is “too gay”.
Celebrities receiving online abuse on social media platforms is increasingly coming under the spotlight.
In response, Stuart Hyde, Chief Constable for Cumbria police and spokesman on social media for the Association of Chief Police Officers said at the time:
“Social media is increasingly part of police business and the law covers situations where you have comment that goes way beyond legitimate opinion.
“We don’t just deal with people who are famous.
“People have the right to freedom of speech but it has to be within the law.”
