  1. Good for them! I hope their protest has some effect. It’s ridiculous for an organisation dealing with tomorrow’s adults and supposedly teaching them good values discriminates against a section of the community and treats them like they’re pariahs.

I’d like to think that it’s only a matter of time before they relent and reverse the policy. But sadly homophobia is often viciously tenacious, immune to reason (like much that’s driven primarily by “religion”) and done “at all costs”.

Homophobes sometimes sacrifice much simply to maintain their unpleasant stance. Let’s hope that unlike the Catholic Church, Chick-fil-A et al, the BSA sees the error of its ways, realises how much damage it’s doing to itself, and reverses its stance, sooner rather than later.

The extreme reluctance of people like this to accept other living, breathing, normal human beings as “proper” people is deeply troubling. They seem to derive so much satisfaction from being mean-spirited and making others miserable. It’s horrible.

Let’s hope this trickle is the beginning of a tsunami. That these individuals may be more reflective of true scouting values bodes well for the future.

  6. They seem to have thrown a few people out of the scouts america who would make ideal leaders. Maybe the gay & straight supporters should leave scouts & set up a separate youth organisation that welcomes all decent law obiding citizens, without judgement.
