  1. Lest anyone forget, Merkel’s party, the CDU, is the German equivalent of the Tory Party.

UK Conservative party supports LGBT people having the same tax status as heterosexuals and same sex marriage and gay adoption.

Let’s hope that voters remember this at the next election. What a stupid woman she is.

  3. Those same sex couples who are able to do so (ie those who are self-employed or not on a company payroll) need to simply refuse to pay the extra tax.

They may be required legally to pay more, but they should simply refuse.

No LGBT person should vote for Merkel’s party.

And those members of the CDU who support equality should quit the party.

As long as Merkel remains in power, no equal marriage. Religion is in the mix once again. Notice her silence on Reiche’s vile comment, a silence that gives consent.

  6. So, basically, sexual orientation is a taxable condition? Nice.

  7. I don’t understand – some people actually believe that though gay people can register their relationships in a manner akin to marriage, they still have to pay tax as individuals?

It’s as dopey as saying a woman can be an MP but not, say, a Chancellor!

Exactly, Rehan. American gay married couples are also in the same predicament, both partners have to file tax returns as individuals and are denied more than 1100 rights at the federal level enjoyed by straight married couples. Same injustice, different country. Obviously, Merkel believes that separate is equal.

  8. It means that gay people are a convenient group to rip off and pile drive their hard earned cash into everyone else’s pockets.
    Nice.

    1. Tax evasion (legal or illegal) is fully justified if you are a same-sex couple in Germany.

F*** Angela Merkel – the monstrous extremist bigot.

I hear France is leaning more towards LGBT equality.
    Emmigration perhaps?
That should stick the middle finger right up Merkel’s taxing -ahem- … She wont like it.

  10. Germany has a long and violent history towards the Gay community (need I remind of the pink triangle). Things have not progressed as much as in other western nations, because of this. Merkel today, still reflects these views from the 1930s.

    1. Germany has also had a precociously liberal and tolerant attitude towards the LGBT community, from Magnus Hirschfeld and the Bohemian culture of 1930s Berlin to the present day. There are just as many liberal Germans who are appalled at this as there are bigoted ones who approve. More, I would very much expect.

  11. What a c#nt!

As for Europe why doesn’t it do something to ensure equality in tax regimes. Freedom of movement, non discrimination towards gay people is a myth when it comes to gay couples in Europe.

  12. I thought Germany’s Constitution Court already ruled that registered partnerships had to have the same rights as marriage. What am I missing here?

Well, it has done this for other taxes and discriminations, but the sad part is, that you have to sue for every one of them one at a time. So this time a decision is due for income taxes. Noone doubts that this discrimination will be removed by the high court as well, Merkel hopes that she can blame the high court once it does it so she doesn’t offend the christian idiots and biggots in her party. It is a shame.

  13. Pure social injustice. There is just no excuse for anyone being disadvantaged due to who they are.

It doesn’t even bother me that people don’t “agree” with homosexuality. It’s when the law doesn’t afford the same rights to all the people of a nation. There’s no justification for it, and those involved should be ashamed of themselves.

  14. WHAT???? This I cannot believe. To acknowledge same sex relationships and then penalise them financially is appalling. At least Mugabe is honest about his homophobia. Vile bitch.
