A. Schwarzenegger was a ‘gay icon’ purely by virtue of having big tits and displaying them at every possible opportunity to make money. That in itself is hardly something that (a) we should be proud of, and (b) presupposes a supportive attitude towards equal rights, which is unfair since surely no-one imagines that distended pecs = intelligence.

California was the first state in the US in 1999 to implement domestic partnerships and the first to pass marriage equality bills twice, before being vetoed twice. Also in California in both 1991 and 1992 domestic partnerships bills got vetoed twice as well. Now same sex marriage in California is in a complicated state going though state and federal supreme courts and appeals after appeals.
