So he opposes their homophobia, but continues to support it. The kind of cynical bet hedging we’ve come to expect from him. Indeed the politician’s politician.
The Scouts are a private organization, and therefore are at liberty to exclude anyone they want. That doesn’t mean that the exclusion of gays is reasonable – it isn’t – but they are still perfectly free to do it. Obama has no more right or authority to stop them than he has to stop any other private organization (e.g. the Freemasons, the Creation Research Institute, the Flat Earth Society, the Association for Biblical Astronomy or the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship) from excluding anyone they want.
I have to say, much that I disapprove of their practice, I agree.
Private groups and societies should be allowed to choose their own rules. If you don’t like what they do, don’t join – it’s as simple as that.
This equality / discrimination thing is all well and good, but sometimes it can go a bit too far.
Such a shame that some sectors of American society remain so backward. By contrast, the Scout Association in the UK welcomes gay members and leaders and its membership has grown in recent years.

Also the BSA needs to be fully banned from all schools and public areas.
As a discriminatory private organisation they should only be allowed to meet on their own private property.

And if they’re receiving any federal US govt. funding or tax breaks, END them!
BSA are painting themselves into a corner.
Thank you, Barack.
