Belgium: Gay man killed at cruising spot

  1. Terrible story.

    But hardly surprising.

People who cruise public parks (or indeed who online for anonymous hookups) are putting themselves in danger.

They are free to do this if they wish of course, but if you neglect your own safety then bad things may happen to you.

    1. I am not saying he was ‘asking’ to be murdered.

Nor did I say that his murder was his own fault – that is clearly the responsibility of the killer.

But if you decide to walk across a crowded motorway at rush hour traffic then don’t be surprised if you get run over.

Likewise if you go to an isolated park at night to engage in anonymous hookups with strangers then you’d better be wide awake to the fact that you are putting yourself in danger.

I hope they catch the killer and I hope that the gay men who cruise the parks start taking more responsibility for their own safety.

The point is if there wasn’t gay hatred people wouldn’t have to trawl around in parks to find love.

  3. Murder one in my book.

Cruisers to need to be aware of their personal safety, but the victim could not have forseen this happening.

    Obviously premeditated.

    1. Why couldn’t he have foreseen this happening?

Going to a park at night, with no-one knowing where you are, and offering yourself up to a complete stranger is CLEARLY a dangerous and foolhardy thing to do.

I remember as a child being told by my parents to NEVER accept a lift from strangers.

      How is this any different?

        ‘Obviously premeditated.’

        The hammer is the clue.

If I go to known cruising ground, I’m cruising for sex, not a hammer attack to the head.

Sure, but you should be aware of the risks you are taking.

          1. From a few years back I know the park . Its mostly bisexual guys . Not dangerous though ! So I would cautiously agree with the “BAT” ( – above -) . . . a premeditated attack from someone looking for a gay victim !

  4. dAVID- So you are saying that people cruising are “asking” to be murdered- and that really “it’s their own fault” and absolutely no blame should be assigned to the murderer?

    Post a reply →
    1. Nowhere did I say it was his fault or that he was asking to be murdered.

But if the victim had made the decison to go to a sauna instead of a park (and Liege is a large city which does have a sauna) then he would probably still be alive.

I am not judging him and think his death is very sad. But facts are facts.

What a typical kneejerk fckwit reaction.
Sure! Will somebody please come and bash me over the head with a hammer!?”

      You really are a cretin.
What dAVID is trying to say is cruising is a calculated risk, just like women that walk about in skimpy clothes “deserve” to get raped or sticking your head in a lion’s mouth “deserves” to get it bitten off.

It’s not what anybody wants or deserves, but it is sometimes what happens because we live in an imperfect world populated by some very dangerous people. The moral of the story is, if you don’t want to risk getting assaulted or worse, don’t hang around the bushes in public parks at 2 ‘o’ clock in the morning.

dAVID didn’t mention women or lions.

        1. Or Bears, Oh MY! On a serious note, some people who go cruising may not be out and could be bisexual or straight guys who want to have sex with other men on the side. These type of men may not want to go to a gay sauna which would be safer.

Just because he was cruising in a secluded area at an unusual hour doesn’t matter. Plenty of female prostitutes cruise for trade at all hours of the day and night in places that aren’t secluded or off the beaten path, yet some end up being the victims of violent or fatal crimes.

Yes, and I’m sure some test pilots have been knocked down by a bus as well.
It’s all about level of risk.
