US mother’s coalition One Million Moms has attacked Ryan Murphy’s latest sitcom, The New Normal, for portraying a gay couple who have a baby by surrogate.

The group, which has previously boycotted JC Penney and Gap for supporting gay rights, said Glee creator Murphy’s new NBC show “subject[s] families to the decay of morals and values”.

A statement from One Million Moms said: “To sum it up, this show is about a homosexual couple who hires a surrogate to have their baby… It is no surprise that openly gay Ryan Murphy, is one of the executive producers and director, who also brought us ‘American Horror Story, ‘Glee’ and “Nip/Tuck.

“NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage. These things are harmful to our society, and this programme is damaging to our culture.”

Murphy has not commented.

One Million Moms, a ministry of the anti-gay American Family Association, urges members to bombard television networks with complaints over “immorality, violence, vulgarity and profanity”.
