York Pride moved after heavy rains
The stage events for York Pride tomorrow have been moved following heavy rainfall in the north of England.
The event will still begin at the Minster in central York at 12pm and a parade will continue to the event ground, which the council has moved from its original location.
June was the wettest in Britain since records and continued heavy rainfall began causing many events to be cancelled or postponed. Derbyshire Pride was one, being moved to later in the year because of flooding.
Organisers have moved the static part of the York event to the Knavesmire, at the corner of Tadcaster Road and Knavesmire Road.
It had originally been planned to go ahead on the Bustardthorpe Field but officials said the area was still too waterlogged to hold the event.
The start time of the stage events, 1.30pm, has not changed. Musical entertainment will be provided by X Factor star Craig Colton and Scooch, the UK’s Eurovision entry in 2007.
York Pride’s organisers recently won a bid to fly the rainbow flag from the Lord Mayor’s official residence in the face of some initial council opposition.
