  2. reading this makes me feel sick. I hope they catch those four worthless piles of crap and lock them away from the rest of society until they are too old and weak to be a danger to anyone

Grown men, beating up teenaged girls, are the TRUE societal deviants! Can such men be cured of THEIR sickening preferences?

She’s ‘lucky’ she wasn’t alone because I’ll bet my last penny they would have raped her as well as beaten her up if they’d had the chance. This mentality is about power over her gender as well as sexual orientation and rape would have been the ultimate power play. This is as much about mysoginism as homophobia and one or more of these men is a serious danger. to ALL women, made worse by the fact that this victim was a child. Appalling. I hope they catch them.

  6. This is the land of Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell. However, I do have conservative friends IN Louisville, and I’m sure they’re as appalled as we are. One of them has a daughter just about this age!

  7. Perhaps they were holy and righteous people? Not bullying sadistic scum rationalising their deviance by reference to religion?

    Animals.

  10. wanna bet this young lesbian was gender non-conformist? this likely an issue of the intersectionality of gender, gender expression, and perceived sexuality.

  11. Wow, two men so big and strong that they pick on a 16yo girl. Bet they think their macho credentials are sky-high. Loathsome vermin.

And what of the other two men in the group, did they just stand by and watch?

  12. This has left me cold. Evil. My heart goes out to her & her family & friends.

I am horrified by this story. And it is those kind of people who would be happy to call any LGBT person an animal!

Beating anyone up is unjustifiable under any circumstances but grown men kicking seven colours of s**t out of a 16 year is despicable.

I wish the girl a speedy recovery and hope that she has the strength of character to be able to defend herself in court if it gets that far, which I hope it will.

It’s beginning to sound like the Taliban in Afghanistan where they attacki women and young girls who don’t conform to the senseless mores of sharia.
This kind of behavior can only flourish in environments where homophobia is institutionalised, as in the church. How else can ordinary people become evil?

    1. I take your point, but never underestimate the power of the herd instinct or tribalism in its many forms. And though I increasingly despise organised religion, it has to be admitted that atheist regimes (Communist China, Khmer Rouge Cambodia) can be just as bad if not worse.

        Rehan: Plz cite your sources.
Atheism is becoming more and more popular in the modern age and the regimes that you posted are probably more likely to kill because they are monsters; Not atheists.

Well to be fully honest there hasn’t realistically been an “atheist regime” – there have been regimes where the leader has been an atheist but there hasn’t been much in the way of a government has been truly lead by atheism and what it might say (which given the lack of a structured belief other than “there is no god or gods or deity or other expansive, all powerful figure” doesn’t leave much to build an entire regime on and for the most part the mind of who ever is in control is just going to have to fill in the blanks with whatever they personally feel is appropriate.) But there is a problem with people using their beliefs (of any kind) to either condone violence or as a scapegoat for something they may decide to either attack verbally or physically because they don’t understand it or have a fear/disgust of it ingrained into them from somewhere.

        Post a reply →
        1. Really? I’d have said the USSR, under its various leaders, could’ve been said to have been an atheist regime.

          Apologies: this is way off-topic.

The issue is highly multi-faceted, but the connection between montheism, and its male God, and the oppression of women seems clear. When you have religion formalizing patriarchal power structures, from the top all the way down, the inequality of women is inevitable. Physical abuse of the “weaker sex” trails in the wake of patriarchies with dictator male Gods.
And the kind of society that oppresses women is also going to be one that oppresses gays. The gay movement should never forget that our struggle is linked with the feminist one.

        1. But the polytheistic ancient Mediterranean cultures, in recorded history anyway, didn’t exactly encourage notions of female equality, did they?

By which you mean? There isn’t a whole lot of information to go on about Minoan culture. The evidence of divine goddess worship also is pretty thin. If you mean Hellenic culture… I’d take that any day over living in a goatherder’s tent in OT Israel! Give me a nice job as a temple vestal instead!

Utterly revolting. How can anyone justify this to themselves? Utterly unacceptable behaviour that proves these four men cannot be a part of society.

Lock them up for a very very long time.

I hope their caught, prosecuted ,tried, sentenced to prison for along time. While incarcerated they may even be subjected to the same vile acts, or worse, they perpetrated against this young woman.

      1. True…but sure don’t make it right! A right wing religous bent ,excuse the pun, rampant homophobia in some states and a crazy gun law is a distrurbing mix in any country. The breaking Denver massacre news story is testiment to that!

Nobody’s claiming it’s “right” because it’s everywhere, including the UK. And what you cite to back yourself up — religion, homophobia — are exactly the things seen everywhere. Gun laws and the Colorado news are separate from this story.
