London: Man who died at gay sauna last week identified

Police have identified a man who was discovered dead in a gay sauna in east London last week as 46-year-old Roberto Jesus Messuti.

Mr Messuti was from Newham, also in east London.

Police are continuing to appeal for information or witnesses as Mr Messuti’s death remains “unexplained”.

His body was discovered at the Chariots Roman Spa on Fairchild Street in Shoreditch after police and an ambulance were called at 7.20am on Wednesday 11 July.

The police continue to appeal to anyone who was at the spa on the evening of Tuesday, 10 July, or early Wednesday morning. Chariots closed for two days following the discovery, reopening on Friday.

A post-mortem was opened on 12 July and toxicology reports remain pending.
