A lesbian teenager in Portland, Texas, has left hospital three weeks after being shot in the head.
Mary Kristene Chapa, 19, was seriously injured in the attack while her girlfriend Mollie Olgin, also 19, was killed.
The couple were both shot in the head by an unknown attacker in Violet Andrews Park on June 22nd. Police still have no motive for the incident.
Ms Chapa suffered serious brain injuries but has recovered enough to help a police artist come up with a sketch of the assailant.
Her sight and speech are said to be improving after initial difficulties with communication.
The suspect is described as a white man in his twenties, five foot eight inches tall, 140 pounds with brown hair and a beard.
Ms Chapa’s brother, Hilario, described how the family broke the news of Ms Olgin’s death to her.
He told NBC Latino: “She didn’t know about Mollie for the longest time, but we finally decided to tell her. She was brokenhearted, very upset.
“They told us you have to let her cry. I didn’t want to tell her not to cry. But Mollie’s father [Mario] is a very good man, considering he lost his daughter. He comes to visit her and when he does she gets emotional but he is supporting her. He wants to go visit her in rehab.”
