The body of a man was found at the gay sauna Chariots in east London yesterday.

The man was found in the Chariot Roman Spa in Fairchild Street, at about 7.20am and is yet to be identified.

A Hackney Police spokeswoman said: “The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage and is being investigated by Hackney officers.”

No arrests have been made. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information.

The police have appealed to anyone who was at the spa on the evening of Tuesday, 10 July, or early Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information should call officers on 020 8721 7760 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Last year, a fire broke out at the east London site at around 6am one Sunday morning, destroying part of the ground floor but not causing any reported injuries.

Fire crews arrived after around 150 men fled the building. The blaze was under control by 7.40am but a Fire Brigade spokesman said it was not clear what had happened to the sauna’s fleeing customers.
