  1. Another day, another story about christo-fascists working hard to make life miserable for LGBT people. I spit on their filthy book and their moronic faith. I could not describe my contempt.

  2. That There Other David 11 Jul 2012, 3:44pm

Cool. And then they can ban Google for their support of marriage equality, and Apple, and Microsoft, and pretty much any company from the civilised and enlightened part of the world that exists outside of Russian borders?

Why can’t Russian authorities get back to what they’re good at, namely framing innocent people and taking backhanders? Meanwhile we’ll all carry on with our lives free of their bovine excrement.

    1. Speaking as a cow, I resent having my pats compared to the likes of the Russian Orthodox Church. I know I give off more methane than I should, but I feel my milk is excellent and a little greenhouse gas is quite harmless compared to a religious loon in a comedy hat in the full throws of an unpleasant homophobic episode.

  3. Some sad little git needs to get a life! The world’s economy is in a mess and what does this muppet worry about? Gay icons on Facebook…’s almost laughable!

    1. The Western world’s economy is in a mess: parts of the Asia, Russia, the Orient, and Latin America are on the up.

  4. It’s still a form of bullying that you can indulge in and still make yourself sound pious and holy, to some anyway;-)

It’s the mentality of the school yard bully in adult bodies, camouflaged by the veil of religion.

I thought it was the church’s job to exist “because it openly popularizes homosexuality among minors.” Hmmm.

    1. That’s paedophilia, it’s not at all similar
Homosexuality is an attraction to same sex adults, not children

…Your joke could be much better worded

      1. Alex MacDonald 11 Jul 2012, 4:28pm

Are paedophilia and homosexuality NOT the same thing then?!

Jeez, that makes me feel a lot better then…I was worried for a bit…

      2. Oh dear. I’ve spent 52 years of my life convinced that I was homosexual even though my first boyfriend and I were 12 when we first slept together. I have been a paedophile all these years without realizing it, and so must have been my last boyfriend who (like me) was 24 when we first slept together. How confusing.

  6. Popularizes homozexuality amongst minors?

Hmmm….riiiight because minors will be constantly seeing the symbols for marriage amongst their friends right? I mean, 13 year olds get married all the time. And especially to people of the same gender.

Given that these morons have laws against homosexuality, I don’t see many Russians updating their Facebook with gay marriage icons, do you?

  7. “The US goal is that Russians stop having children. [They want] the great nation to turn into likeness of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

Heh. Like Americans even notice that Russia still exists. We have the attention span of a goldfish.

  8. “We demand only one thing: Facebook should be blocked in the entire country because it openly popularizes homosexuality among minors.”

People/minors under 13 shouldn’t be using Facebook without breaching their terms and conditions should they?

  9. ‘He said: “The US goal is that Russians stop having children.” ‘

He’s spotted the cunning American plan! Watch out, dear, they’ll be putting contraceptives in your burgers next! Or maybe messing with your brains – get your tinfoil hats out asap!

Of course, it’s well known that merely looking at the slightest hint of anything gay ‘turns’ you *rolls eyes* Yep, that’s why I’m straight after years of looking at straight wedding imagery. Not.

    1. Lynda Yilmaz 19 Jul 2012, 10:31pm

Well said Iris. He may have spotted the cunning American plan, but he’s over looking the fact that the cunning Americans have overlooked their own openly gay population, which might cause a dramatic fall in their own birthrate. How the hell do these people think of this stuff? I was almost speechless (only almost) Still with their own impeccable history of human rights, equality and democracy it’s only fair that they have their say! LOLOLOLOLOL!

  10. Jesus Moran 11 Jul 2012, 4:15pm

Am fed up with these assholes in white pants and shoes, women look like cheap prostitutes , don’t smile , they are rude , closed minded mafiosos please give me a break!!!!!

  11. Jesus moran 11 Jul 2012, 4:24pm

Maybe we should deport all Russians back to their country same as the Muslims all they do is to condem and judge others , again this planet is big enough take your prejudice and bling bling tacky outfits back to your ugly country!

    1. clearly we share your passion and disgust – I am not sure why your comments have been negatively marked – If citizenship fails to win hearts and minds for a tolerant society – then these terrorists and bigots should be deported – How many more innocent people have to be murdered in the name of superstition?

      1. Perhaps the negative markings are because of irrelevance: this story is about Russian in Russia, it has nothing to do with Russians living outside their country.

    2. When leaders in a backward, homophobic oppressive country do, or say, something that we find objectionable, deporting people who originate from those countries is punishing the wrong people. They are here presumably because they don’t want to live in a backward, homophobic oppressive country. Sending them back is mean spirited and cruel.

  12. Pavlos Prince of Greece 11 Jul 2012, 4:34pm

Oh yes, Orthodox Church and his ‘activists’. Its exactly that, what undemocratic, chaotic and unsafe country needs in his frustration – in the front of hate we still be world champions!

  13. Ha Ha Ha ha Ha Ha Ha ha Ha Ha Ha haHa Ha Ha ha Ha Ha Ha ha oooohh my sides hurt Ha Ha Ha haHa Ha Ha ha –
Every day in every way organised religion is nailing shut it’s own coffin – Ha Ha Ha haHa Ha Ha ha

  14. “Religious activists in Russia are calling for a nationwide ban on Facebook…”

Yes, they should do that, if they want to provoke the next Russian Revolution.

It’s been nearly a 100 years now; a second revolution is overdue.

  15. Jock S. Trap 11 Jul 2012, 5:40pm

If Russian orthodox activists etc wish to remain bigoted and discriminating that’s their choice but they don’t have Any right to separate the rest of us in the world to accommodate their breed of small mindedness.

Most of All they don’t have the right to exclude those LGBT people of the world let alone those LGBT communties living in Russia.

  16. I am appalled, APPALLED that in Russia people are being forced against their will to use Facebook. I support any Russian person who finds Facebook’s icons offensive in their right not to use Facebook.

  17. Cardinal Capone 11 Jul 2012, 6:23pm

The biggest laugh I’ve had all week. The US and Russian religious right deserve each other.

    1. Marriage maybe? lol

    2. The Iconic orthodox church eh?

They must be stuck in 1917.

      1. Try 1617.

  18. Correct me if I am wrong?

Homosexuality (whilst controversial) is legal in Russia.

The icons being referred to on facebook are celebrations of a personal event in the individual life of the profile holder – not propaganda.

    Clutching at hate filled straws?

    1. Homosexual marriage isn’t legal, so, yes, these pro-gay marriage icons are a form of ‘propaganda’ (promotion) of something that currently alien to that society.

      1. How is it promoting marriage?

It is merely commenting on an event in some peoples lives – would you prefer that there is no freedom of speech and that facts (some gay people have got married) are censored?

      2. John, if you think two gay people in a relationship is “currently alien to society”, you need to seriously get out more. You can get medication if you find the outside world scary or hear voices in your head that you suspect are form god….

  19. Russian Spring anyone?

  20. Mumbo Jumbo 11 Jul 2012, 8:11pm

    “Religious activists…..”

Well, that says it all in the first two words doesn’t it?

Get a life you sad creeps.

  21. Paddyswurds 11 Jul 2012, 8:25pm

It would fit the creep better if he were to decry the endemic corruption that has turned a once great nation into a pariah state, where oligarchs and pseudo politicians share out the spoils amongst themselves and corruptly prosecute those who refuse to be corrupted…….

  22. Omar Kuddus 11 Jul 2012, 9:47pm

I sincerely wish that they do sue services which provide access to Facebook.
One presumes that then they will also want to ban and take on Google, Apple, Microsoft and any company who support of equality. Or do they plan to sue them too?
For it would be interesting to see these multibillion dollar companies’ rebuttals and the stand that they make.
It is amazing that they are demanding that ‘Facebook should be blocked in the entire country because it openly popularizes homosexuality among minors’, as if that would ever happen!
Given that Russia’s has laws against the promoting of gay and transgender identities I don’t see many Russians updating their Facebook with gay marriage icons, just to be fined. Do you? It has always been my humble opinion that it is via companies that aid and facilitates our technology and our information and the age we live in, that we shall be able to finally obtain, equality and eradicate homophobia and discrimination. Russia would be a good starting point.

  24. I wonder – what is Russian for “drinking the Kool-Aid”?

  25. Robert White 12 Jul 2012, 1:01am

Please, someone tell me how to get Facebook banned here in the US.

I’d even play the gay card to do it if I thought it would work.

I hate facebook but its all my family and friends will use predictably. Now its starting to nagg me because I have -zero- apps enabled. /sigh

  26. Ban Facebook? The largest social media network on the planet with nearly a billion users?

This is as stupid as the Boycott Goggle story.

    What a bunch of buffoons.

  27. Another anti-Christ church. Russia is sinking rapidly to level of a dictatorship.

    1. ‘Sinking’? When has it ever been anything but a dictatorship?

What is alarming is the possibility of it sinking to the level of a dictatorship in cahoots with organised religion.

  28. Borrowed from Vince on another thread.
