Shame to hear about this happening – hope everything is covered by their insurrance. This is great community bookshop that has served our community well over the years. Let us know if there is anything that we can do to help – was happy to make a donation when their window was smashed last year and although I don’t have much money at the moment I’d gladly sacrifice a night out to help out x
Gay’s The Word is one of the most wonderful bookshops ever. It deserves the support of the LGBT community and a visit to the shop is thrilling and life-affirming. Too much hyperbole for a small bookshop? Possibly, but if you are visiting London or live in London, Gay’s The Word is somewhere you must see for yourself (and spend some money).
It’s sad to hear the shop is, yet again, a victim of crime but, as always, they will come back fighting.
Although Amazon may be cheaper and more convenient way to buy books it cannot compare with a trip to GTW. It’s astonishing to see how many books there are about us and how fabulous we are.

Was this the same place that was the only shop in the street not to be broken into during the riots last year?
Maybe they just forgot.
It is indeed the same. And still the books on Robert Mapplethorpe remain untouched. I’m assuming London yoof are still into Adidas and Reebok.
I’m surprised, considering they are picture books, as being illiterate would prevent them from reading anything else.
It was damaged in the August riots:

I have enjoyed many a visit to GTW. A real bookshop – that understands its customers.
