Now it needs all the publicity it can get, and human rights will prevail regardless of untestable religious beliefs and ludicrous scare tactics with which the world has become familiar.
Belize along with Guyana are the only countries on mainland America which still criminalize homosexuality. They are also the only English speaking countries south of the US-Mexican border. With gay rights on a roll in Latin America, Belize is no doubt under pressure to change the law and now that the topic is out in the open, change could come about soon. Belize did briefly allow gay sex over ten years ago before recriminalizing it but hopefully these hateful laws will disapear for good. A positive move by Belize will hopefully put enormous pressure on Guyana to follow suit.
To try and deny gay rights on the grounds that homosexuality is not human is like describing certain races as ‘unhuman’ in order to deny them their rights.
Under threat of harm, courageous Caleb Orosco has become the face of the LGBT Community of Belize. As the case winds through the legal system, the Council of Churches, which has representation in the Government of Belize, seems to have distanced themselves from the most harmful, homophobic rhetoric from religious, far-right public figures, a huge step in the right direction.
Thank you Pink News, for bringing this issue to the forefront internationally. Belize is a beautiful, wonderful and kind country in so many ways. Unfortunately, this has been undermined by the fearmongering and hate speech of extremist religious groups, mostly backed by USA hate groups. The more international attention this receives and the more people let the Belizean government know how important it is to be on the right side of history, the better chance we have to be able to live in equality.
Belize is a country that fights and supports equality and the discover of rejection and discrimination together we must fight to gain respect and harmony, Greetings

Hopefully, we’ll see a swift change.
