Nor did all the great calamities occur when much of Europe, Canada, Argentina & South Africa brought in equal marriage. News Flash to the anti-equal marriage folk, we are STILL here. Just like we were when marriage was equalised for the races and for the various religions before that. This uniquely human civil institution has survived millennia of so-called forces that will destroy but — lo and behold!! — it is still around and doing strong.
One thing that is overlooked is that sadly, those marriages are not recognised at the federal level depriving those couples of over eleven hundred rights and privileges. So in essence, full marriage equality hasn’t yet arrived in any of the American states where we can marry.
That said, still a step forward and none of us in the UK can even marry in our own country. It’s taking too damn long and it’s so unnecessary. I just don’t understand what the difficulty is. It will probably pass in Parliament but then we have that House of bigots in the Lords to contend with who will probalby vote against it. More delays after that.
