Congrats to them…but i still wanna see a day when ‘gay’ teams are not required and everyone, no matter what their sexuality, can play in the same team without any discrimination.
Why can’t we just have A rugby team instead of a Gay rugby team? Because i think that most athletes who happen to be gay don’t want to be categorized as a ‘gay’ athletes.
I occasionally play for the Kings Cross Steelers RFC and was in Manchester.
Many gay men do play for ordinary rugby clubs, but it’s not just about the pitch or the bar, it’s about the whole social package too. We have a very good relationship with East London RFC with whom we have shared a ground for over 10 years. However whilst they drink with us and us with them I am not wholly convinced that they’d want to go to a gay bar afterwards or clubbing – While we are all rugby players there are differences in the way we might want to socialise.
We don’t exactly allow marriage equality either but at least the subject is under debate in both our countries and it is only a matter of time before it happens.

Awesome. I wish I’d known about it beforehand, it would have been the perfect excuse to visit Manchester.

Congratulations to London’s own Kings Cross Steelers who won the Bingham Plate and The Hoagland Cup at this event. KXSRFC.com
