I’m not clear whether any of the Teletubbies was lesbian or gay, but they did have genders (Tinky Winky and Dipsy were male, La La and Po were female)
There’s little doubt that the idea was to challenge gender stereotypes. It appears that those responsible, and children’s media in general, are no longer sending out progressive messages. You only need to look at what is planned for this year’s Children’s Media Conference to see what I’m talking about.
Who really cared anyway? As long as the kids who were watching enjoyed and found it entertaining, even educational that was the main point.
I am sure that when I was a young un, people possibly questioned the relationship between Big Ted and Little Ted on Playschool!
