Thanks to her statement last year – withdrawn later (although the withdrawal was not given fraction of the coverage) and the harm it has done, she is very much in my “who gives a cr@p” list.
I usually cheer extra loud for out celebs and cover their careers more closely (good grief, have I sat through some junk). But not her. Walk/Pier.
What harm has her comment actually done? What anti-gay groups are holding her comment up as fodder to justify the actions they take against our community?
She said that for her, personally, it was a choice to be gay. She never said that it was the same for everyone, nor did she imply that she thinks as such.
Her original comment gave ammunition to the right wing anti equality hate-groups as well as ex-gay ministries which to them means the ‘gay’ in people can be cured, prayed away even. No straight person would say he or she chose to be straight. It’s who they’ve always been and never had to think about it twice.
Dr Julia Gasper (that nut case UKIP candidate who said gays should thank heterosexuals for their existence) is one example of “who, specifically, is actually using [Cynthia Nixon's] statement as ammunition”. It is happening.
Hmmm, I don’t think she can be held responsible for that. The anti-equality movement will focus in on *anything* and hold it up as ‘proof’. If it wasn’t her that week, it would have been someone else.
So what if she would choose to be gay? People also choose to be religious bigots. Choice is of same value as biological reason. People even choose to change religions. So what. Live and let live. Love and let ;love.
Intellectually, I agree. Practically, I want the same civil liberties as everyone else. Expecting the world to grow up, get over its hang-ups and stop assuming that we make a capricious choice just to annoy them will just take too bloody long.

I know what you mean!

That doesn’t answer my other question – who, specifically, is actually using her statement as ammunition?

No one else with an audience has been quite as naive and misleading.

You posit a perfect world. We don’t live in one.

Congratulations! She was amazing in Sex and The City!
So happy for her and her entire family.
