The question must be …”What makes Fred Phelps like this?”. Psychologists would say it’s probably because he’s struggled with his own homosexuality and has turned self-loathing, outwards. This is the driving force behind most homophobia.

I admire the sentiment, but still maintain if you want to see the back of Westboro the best method is to blank them totally and starve them of publicity.
They thrive on publicity and conflict and if they genuinely cared that people didn’t think they were very nice they would’ve packed it in years ago.
Without their litigious public trolling they’d be forced to get real jobs.

I think just the opposite. The more publicity these morons receive, the more revulsion ordinary, bible-belt Americans will feel. I think life in general is vastly improved with the demise of church membership and its dominance of public life.

There’s something unsettling to me about the use of children in political and theological propaganda. Just because the Westboro lot are doing it doesn’t mean it is right to counter them using children.

I know i was Gay and was attracted to the same sex at that age… and I came from a strict Christian family so no influences… so why can’t children make up their Own minds on other matters?
Children are people as well. They are also part of society and should have as much say as anybody else.

It takes a nine year old boy to stand up to those idiots. For far too long the Westboro Baptist Church have made a mockery of their First Amendment Rights to free speech (which seems to allow hate speech as well). When Louis Theroux visited the WBC during the making of one of his documentaries he accompanied WBC members on a roadside protest during which an object was thrown from a passing car, hitting one of their children in the face. By trying to brainwash their children the WBC are putting them in the line of fire.
Did they kill him ? I wouldn’t be surprised if Westboro Baptist Church started killing people, they are nothing more than thugs.

A child of that age is directed by the parent and follows the parents lead in a situation involving other adults. It was a rotten thing for her to do to her son and if she herself protested the matter it would be fine. Instead she used a child and placed him in a position of attracting verbal abuse from these scumbags.
