Is it any wonder these people are so easily led by their stupid leaders…

  2. Then 47% of those Russians are bisexual or questioning – since there is no other reason (other than grotesque stupidity) to believe that sexuality is so utterly mutable that just hearing about gay people makes you gay.

Of course, that 47% would certainly deny that. Which really leaves only grotesque stupidity as the reason they would believe such facile moronic bullsh!t.

    1. Don’t hold back – speak your mind. I agree with you btw

  3. Julian Morrison 17 May 2012, 5:36pm

Here’s how that’s kind of true: if your country is so repressed that they won’t even permit Pride parades, then there are going to be a lot of gay people in gritted-teeth levels of denial out there. And those people feel any experience of free, unashamed gay people as a terrifyingly delicious temptation that is tearing great big holes in their “straight” identity.

  4. Perhaps true when orientation is suppressed by state subjugation.

  5. The other 90% don’t. :D

  6. It is hard to believe that people in Russia could be so stupid as to believe such nonsense. It must be more than ignorance, it must be homophobic propaganda.

  7. The media? What rubbish. Everyone knows it’s the devil and his demons.

    1. I think this comment got two dislikes because they thought it wasn’t being ironic and was actually being homophobic. Now neither do I know what it is.

One more reason for Ukrainians to laugh our arses off at the neighbours to the North.

  9. Lyuba Tereshchenko 17 May 2012, 7:26pm

You’re joking, right? It’s really when Mars transits Virgo during the Full Moon.

So you’re saying that all gays are really space-out straight people? Hmmm. Sounds good to me. Mork signing off.

  10. People might feel more comfortable in being themselves if there is a climate of acceptable and honesty about sexual orientation. The media can be a useful tool in encouraging acceptance and tolerance.

  11. SinnySinSins 17 May 2012, 7:34pm

State owned polling agency? Seems legit. It’s not like Putin’s government has ever been accused of corruption.

    Oh.

    1. Mark Sudia 18 May 2012, 1:30pm

There’s the answer. The State want’s them to believe this, so they do. Remember Figures don’t lie, but liars DO FIGURE!!!

  12. Jesus moran 17 May 2012, 7:46pm

Please don’t let them EVER be part of Europe or that will be the end of so much equal rights work already done !!!

  13. You can’t turn people gay. Sure, you can help closeted people, either living as straight or as bisexual, come out as homosexual, but you can’t change orientation.

Russia is pretty lame when it comes to treatment of LGB people. Not Saudi Arabia, but enough to warrant not being a part of the UN. I think being pro LGB should be a requirement for countries to be a part of EU/UN/etc

    1. UN would shrink to 1/3 if gay rights were requirement for membership

    2. And T, but you wouldn’t include that would you?

  14. Media didn’t make me gay

Seeing Shirley Phelps body did however make me gay .

    Thanks Shirley .

      @jbd…
….are you now blind because of that trauma? I don’t know about seeing her body but just seeing her evil face has traumatised me big time. How did you manage to get her undressed?

      1. Sorry my fault ,when I said body ,I meant to say the whole look of her .

        She is Vile x

The sheer illiteracy and ignorance in such beliefs is astounding in a country with the atom bomb. This isn’t homophobia just absolute blissful ignorance. These people have been so brutalised by despots and corruption that the very concept of homosexuality is nothing more to these people than a word. They have no idea what or of what it is or entails. Just surviving in post soviet Russia is an everyday struggle and you may as well talk to them about the far reaches of the universe as talk of homosexuality. It is not something that excercises their mind in everyday life as it does here in the twenty first century west and as such has no interest for those of us who live so far into these peoples future…..

    1. “Brutalised by despots…” would certainly include hundreds of years of of anti-semitic and homophobic teachings of the Russian Orthodox Church. Just this week, we saw Orthodox priests attacking gays in Tbilisi, Georgia, during the “Day Against Homophobia” march.

  16. The headline should have been
“Poll:47 percent of Russians are ignorant and/or mentally retarded”

  17. Well, considering that a recent poll revealed that 32 percent of russians believe the Sun revolves around Earth this doesn’t surprise me much. Russians scare and depress me.

  18. Proof they do not educate the people in Russia and keep the stupid and down and in fear of the KGB. Really, how gay can Russian TV be? But then again they believe in a fairy tale religion.

  19. Russia need to reform and modernise itself.

Especially in education, as it seems to be very lacking.

Only listening to the propaganda the Russian Government releases.

    1. Mark Sudia 18 May 2012, 1:42pm

Don’t worry. If all of the Hot Young Gay men (and women) in the industry throughout Russia came out at once, they’d learn really fast.

  20. “47 percent of Russians believe the media can turn people gay”

    =

47 percent of Russians need better education.

    A lot better.

  21. This is absurd. Can’t believe Russians would blame media for homosexuality. There are same sex attractions in animal kingdom too. I wonder who are they gonna blame for that? The trees, maybe? The condition of LGBT wellbeing is unsettling now that we know Russians are this homophobic.

  22. State news agencies just make stuff up at this point since Russia has gone to hell again. No reason for anyone, gay, bi or straight, to maintain the rule of law under such corruption and human rights violations.

  23. Of course if being gay weren’t so demonised no one would give a tuppenpy toss. On the other hand maybe they could point out the media that is turning people gay? Maybe they should ban that as well.

  24. ’47 percent of Russians believe the media can turn people gay’

i think its just excuse they use not to pay their tv licence fee

  25. 47% of raving drunks in Russia believe the media can turn you gay, they also believe a short arse meglalomaniac in the Kremlin with a macho compex is straight, he’s not.

  26. Do we know what it was before?

  27. If you wear a tin foil helmet it protects you from the gay media waves ensuring that you don’t turn gay, but you must wear it at all times!!!

    1. And the tin foil helmet can’t be too FABULOUS, it might end up turning you gay too.

  28. The other 53% think it’s the vodka.

  29. Daria Khagel 19 May 2012, 3:54am

Hmmm… considering that most media in Russia runs by government it looks rather odd;)
They need to provide a formal reason for putting it ALL under control?
And I’m not really tend to agree with that “poll” results – I don’t know where they have found them.
It’s not like everything is so bad here as it seems. Just there are some radical groups of young men taking agressive actions against everyone they don’t like for some reasons… And the government – I don’t really understand what it is seeking? Silently agreeing with that stupid “laws” in regions and declining it on a federal level.
