The county of Worcestershire will be celebrating the Pride season with a series of picnics across the county.

Worcestershire Rainbow Picnics have been organised by Bromsgrove resident Rory Shannon, with the aim of bringing together LGBTQ people across the county.

The towns of Bromsgrove, Redditch and Worcester will be hold the “Rainbow Picnics” this June.

Mr Shannon said a picnic was “a great way to spend a summer day” and that Bromsgrove District, Redditch Borough and Worcester City Council have given their support to the gatherings taking place in civic parks.

He added: “Rainbow Picnics will bring together folk who perhaps wouldn’t normally get the chance to meet, and are an alternative to the larger Prides”.

The events have also been given support from LGBT UNISON West Midlands.

Mr Shannon said that, if successful, the picnics would become an annual event and he is hoping to extend them to other Worcestershire towns in 2013. Worcester’s first planned pride event was cancelled in 2010.

Bromsgrove’s Picnic will take place on Saturday 9th June in Sanders Park, Redditch on 16th June in Arrow Valley Park, and Worcester on the 23rd June in Gheluvelt Park.

All will start at midday, more details can found through www.rainbowcrowd.co.uk and on Facebook.
