A pity those 500,000 views haven’t translated into 500,000+ signatures for the petition.

Indeed. Signing the petition takes less time that watching the video. Then again we don’t force 11 years old school kids to sign it.

It’s not clear from the credits on the film (which I adore!) that this is something people could do. It says ‘speak up and share’ and there are various bewildering icons which presumably enable technodroids to do this but nothing telling old fogies like me exactly what could be done next after seeing the film. Only the truly dedicated oldie like me will find their way to the C4EM website where the actions to take are very clearly laid out. I’ve done it all now, including nice letter to my MP, but only by hook and by crook. It is a great ad for marriage equality, but not for the C4EM petition. I think it should state clearly at the end ‘sign the petition!’

I’ve tried finding information on both actors. So far, nothing. Maybe other readers have some information they could share?

      Post a reply →
      1. I’m not sure in what way this is relevant, but according to the earlier article the actors are James Knight (Mamma Mia) and Lew Smart.

Yes, and what it would it matter if the actors aren’t even British? I still can’t figure out where John is coming from on that one.

A video short so eloquent in its silence.
    Bravo.

Has any thought been given to airing it on ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Sianel Pedwar Cymru or any other British-based TV channel thats supports itself by selling airtime?

Surely amongst the British LGBT citizens there are enough in the business and media worlds who would be only too willing to bankroll such a powerfully persuasive campaign.

If the nay-sayers had access to such a resource, one may be sure they’d find a way of maximising its ‘audience’.

I so agree. It MUST be aired on all channels to reach a larger audience of support. I’ve also espoused getting celebrities involved, an extremely useful tool.

I enjoyed the video, I’m glad it’s gotten so many views. Shame some of the comments were homophobic.

I hope they make a video with two (attractive) women, because that’s something I’d connect more to. Well anyways, it was a nice video and I hope it makes some difference. :)

“because that’s something I’d connect more to.”

More egocentricity form the transphobic bigot with he IQ of a turnip. Thanks for that Lumi, we love listening to your me-me-me crap.

    2. Attractive? Nicely pejorative comment, that, Lumi. Who are you to judge attractiveness and who is attractive to someone else? You’re buying into and propagating the misogyny perpetuated by the ‘men in charge’ – what an ar se you are showing yourself to be – not only transphobic, but also anti-women.

Sure 500 k is a nice view count but take note that the Australian GetUp – ad has SO MUCH more views! It’s more realistic and beautiful imo.
This ad is nice and pretty but kind of “bleh” if you ask me.

Also 500 k, even tho it’s a fairly big number to some, is not that big of a number on the internet, especially on youtube.

Just read a story this morning about a veteran, who was dismissed under DADT, proposed to his partner when he returned from combat. The proposal took place on the grounds of Camp Pendleton in California. If only they could get married in California.

And C4M claims both written and verbally that polygamy and incestuous relationships might ensue if we’re allowed civil marriages. The dumb-arses aren’t even aware both are illegal in the UK and would never be allowed. Who would be demanding them? Identify and please provide the proof? Another one to report to ASA too.

I feel this video takes advantage of a media which suppresses criticism of the armed forces. “Soldiers like it, so it must be good, because soldiers are never wrong. It would be unpatriotic to disagree.”

(I’m not criticising soldiers, I’m criticising the media and saying we should question the role of the forces).
