A short film released to support equal access to marriage for gay people has amassed over half a million views in less than a week.

Directed by award winning film-maker Mike Buonaiuto, the short film shows British forces returning home to their loved ones, with the reunion of one soldier and his partner soon turning into a surprise marriage proposal.

PinkNews.co.uk is among the companies backing the film, which has been on display on the right-hand side of the site since its launch last week.

Director Mike Buonaiuto told PinkNews.co.uk today of reaching 500,000 views: “It is completely overwhelming to get such a large number of hits in such a short period of time. Our overall target was 20 or 30,000 views and we smashed that within a few hours.

“The support throughout the world in the comments has touched us all. People have been telling us they can really relate to the video, and perhaps that’s why it’s been so successful. The whole point of the film was to put in a box an emotion which can be shared.

“It’s hard to share an emotion through a text consultation on Facebook and Twitter, so we hope people will continue to share this video and help carry it along. We hope the video people will feel strongly enough to act on their emotion to sign the petition, fill in the government’s consultation and find out their MP’s position through the Coalition for Equal Marriage website.”

Readers can sign the petition, find details on the public consultation and email MPs through the Coalition for Equal Marriage website.
