Anyone else think that Obama has not done enough for LGBT rights in the US? OK so he repealed ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ but what else? millions of LGBT Americans are still not allowed a marriage of any kind across the country and until that changes I don’t consider him as have done enough!

Perhaps we don’t see much of what he has done in the UK so can someone from the US provide more information on what he has achieved for the US LGBT community?

    1. Truth be told Obama has done a 180 on most of his promising policies and hasn’t vetoed any of the dangerous, damaging bills that have gone through. An unashamed war-mongering corporatist who has legions of people willing to call him a saviour because he’s a democrat. The sooner americans realize that their two main political parties are remarkably similar in practice the better. He’s been one of the worst, most two-faced presidents America’s ever had. But a lot of it doesn’t reach the UK, you’re right.

On topic it’s almost always disturbing when celebrities and politics mix.

You’re right he hasn’t done anything else. But we need to consider which is better, a president who does things slowly (Obama) or a president who will take steps backwards re-instating DADT (Romney and every other Rep.).
Repealing DADT was a big step forward in itself imo. And i think that if americans give Obama his second term (and i think he gets it) then he’ll do more for LGBT citizens. Besides he’s way better than ANY other candidate americans have at the moment.
Also if Romney gets elected you can be sure that he will try to enforce a law that will legally ban equal marriage in every state.

At least the Democrats no longer draft or support legislation to discriminate. The lesser of the two evils. From what I’ve read online, Romney apparently wants to uphold the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) and would like to see it in every state, overturn same-sex marriages and ban abortion. Sadly, gay Americans will vote for him because equality isn’t a priority. It never has been and it never will be, even if the economy were booming and jobs plentiful.

*Shrugs*. What with Ricki being pretty slow to come out of the closet in the first place and Obama flip flopping over LGBT issues in the US I’d say they were a perfect match.
