  1. So most people approve of the ban, even though they don’t understand it – In other words, Russia seems full of dumb sheep.

  2. Poll: 99 percent of Russians have never seen democracy.

Education is still seen as elitist and only a very small percentage finish juniuor school never mind secondary education. Russia is still stuck very firmly in the pre Bolshevik era. Russia like the USA is for the next 100 years or so a lost cause for human rights of any kind, but for very different reasons. Americas problem while also having huge education problems, is very much down to a huge rise in fundamentalist religion mostly christian or what they think is christian and the politicians are for the most part running scared because of the insidious power theses groups wield with the huge , (3/4s of the population), underclass of poorly or uneducated people……..
Russia on the other hand is suffering from the after affects to 200 years of brutality and corruption, firstly under the Zarist ruling classes who stripped the population of any semblance of dignity or humanity. They as we all know were replaced by an even more brutal regime which completed the job of robbing the Rus….

of what humanity was left by the cruelest cut of all. A complete and unapologetic take over of the country by corrupt politicians most of whom are left overs from the Soviet era. Putin and ex KGB man and his deputy Medieve have taken too swapping the premiership and presidency between the selves in a cynical and successful move to thwart the countrys election laws. Currently Putin is back in power as president and is expected to change the law so he stays pres for 15 or 20 years. That is the Reality of poll taking in Russia. A useless exercise made to suite whatever the ruling elite deem necessary for their own preservation…..

          @all…
….Sorry about all the typos….Too many to be bothered fixing at this time of night, so i hope you will indulge me and ignore them just this once, I’m tired…………

    2. 99 percent ? No Russian ever in the history of Russia has ever seen liberty and democracy in any way, and now with the autocrat Vladimir Putin this number will probably impossibly surpass 100 percent !! Russia is hell on Earth.

    3. Associating democracy and some kind of human rights is flawed in every way. Both of the Russian presidents have shown some very restricted support to gay rights (I mean, to their existence), and Putin coming back is the least concern to the gay community. Remember that half of Russians would like to see gays behind bars, the other half is simply undecided, so from this perspective this is one of the most democratic countries in the world.

      1. “Associating democracy and some kind of human rights is flawed in every way.”

Oh, I don’t think so. The countries with the highest levels of democracy, and the lowest levels of corruption, are almost invariable the ones with the most civil liberties.

Russia is democratic on paper only. In the Democracy Index 2010, Russia was 107th. Go figure.

        (graphics.eiu.com/PDF/Democracy_Index_2010_web.pdf)

“Remember that half of Russians would like to see gays behind bars”

Didn’t learn much from the second world war then, did they?

        1. “The countries with the highest levels of democracy, and the lowest levels of corruption, are almost invariable the ones with the most civil liberties.”

Unfortunately this argument usually makes no point to someone who dispises a group of people to the point they would rather send them to concentration camps than go into some dialogue (this is not a joke, by the way). They flee the country like rats from a sinking ship, but still they would never refuse their hatred which causes their life to be as misearable as hell to begin with, at the same time, they would never refuse the financial prosperity Western countries can provide.

I have a misfortune to live in a different, but very similar country and I can assure you that many would repeat every aspect of the WWII with the gays and the only thing that prevents this is the government acting in a not democratic way: holding to the Western standards, at least to some point.

          1. “Unfortunately this argument usually makes no point to someone who dispises a group of people to the point they would rather send them to concentration camps than go into some dialogue”

Actually, if History shows one thing, its has consistently shown that when the state condones persecution of a group, the masses will adopt it, and like wise, when the state enshrines protections or all citizens equally, those who would prefer the opposite, become less desirable in society and sometimes shunned as a retrograde belief. So, how the government legislates makes all the difference. The people will not leave en-mass. Hate is learned, it can be unlearned.

  3. “1,600 respondents across the country.” What?! Have they SEEN the population of Russia? What a poor sample size. I wouldn’t be surprised if the people chosen were all catholics or muslim…

That said, I don’t believe there would be a majority in support of LGBT rights either.

    1. Oh, yes. Because all Muslims and Catholics are known to never support gay people…

      /sarcasm

      Lovely. Let’s have more bias.

      1. I didn’t word that very well, but all the same, if all people asked were muslims, I suspect you’d find a less-than-average amount of LGBT support than if you didn’t. I am aware that not all muslims and catholics are anti-gay but large numbers of them are and by interviewing selectively, the data could easily be skewed.

      2. Paddyswurds 19 Apr 2012, 11:31pm

Coptic Christians (Russian Orthodox Catholics) are usually no as anti rights or as homophobic as the Roman version and their hierarchy tend to listen to the faithful rather than dictate, one of the reasons for the schism from Rome in 1054 or thereabouts, another being over the power s of the pope and then the usual theology arguments about a non existant deity. There are about seven different religions and faiths including ancient paganism, making fools out of the Russian people at the moment……

  4. I really don’t feel like those numbers are accurate-

  5. “aggressive propaganda and the imposition of certain behavior and values that may insult the majority of the society.”

I remember a guy called Hitler who had a similar line with Jews!
And was it not so long ago that “whites” thought similar about “blacks”!

    Evil!!!

  6. Two months till I get to leave Russia and come back home to my lovely man. Can’t say I’ll miss it much. Except the fact that a tube journey of any distance costs 50p.

  7. The constituencies where the BNP do best are those with the fewest ethnic minorites – people react far more stongly to fear of what htey can’t see than to dealing with what they actually can. For as long as we pander to these ridiculous primal fears they aren’t going to go away…

  8. Paddyswurds 19 Apr 2012, 9:58pm

    my post has disappeared again…grrr

    1. The Russians did it ! lol

  9. Russia has always tried to hide and cover the truth and they have spent a lot of time and money making it to a science, too bad the truth can never be hidden forever because sooner or later it always has a way of coming out. Russian like all governments and religions who have something to hide or cover up they never truly educate people so they can find out. Again sooner or later the truth always come out. It seems some of these people work long and hard and spend countless amounts of money to hide the truth. What a waste when the truth comes out, which it always has and will.

  10. The results are hardly surprising as they were all conducted by state run companies.

I wonder if they polls had been conducted by a completely independent authority if the results would (and most likely) be different.

But then again, the Russians would not know independent if it sat on their faces and wriggled!

As Valsky has said , the country seemns to be full of dumb sheep, followers not leaders.

  11. 86% of Russians are backward, stupid, uncivilised people.

They will so much better off when China decides to expand into Russia (this is not an ‘if’ this is a ‘when’ situation)

  12. “given the absence of any explicit definition or provision relating to such a group or such persons as separate rights holders under international human rights law.”…

Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister said that “under the pretext of protecting the so-called sexual minorities, in effect there’s aggressive propaganda and the imposition of certain behavior and values that may insult the majority of the society.”

We can’t not exist and have ‘aggressive propaganda’ … what an idiot.
