Why do you have to be so robotic about these things. People are not computers with perfect programming. Plenty of Catholics in France use contraception and have gay people in their families without having to jettison their religious identity. French people do not follow what is said by the Pope.
One can disagree with most of what is said by the Pope and still be a Catholic and go to the church. I know plenty of people where I grew up as a boy who were religious Catholics, liberal, kind, moral and open.
When you use words such as “vile people” and others speak of “paedophile priests” it really is not the reality of the Catholics I knew, the villages in which I stayed as a boy, and the priests with whom I grew up.
