Joe McElderry, the gay singer and winner of the X Factor and Popstar to Operastar has been confirmed as the headline act at Pride Glasgow this year.

McElderry, also known for his singles The Climb, Ambitions and Someone Wake Me Up, will perform on 14 July at George Square in the city.

Ross Stevenson, Pride Glasgow Festival Director, said: “Securing the chart-topping artist has been a major coup for the festival and we couldn’t have done it without the support of headline sponsor AXM Club who will also be providing a major act for the main stage.

“We have really tried hard this year to up our game and securing Joe as the headline act shows we are committed to continue to grow the event and make Pride Glasgow an event that the city can be proud of”.
