As a Labour Member I do say, this person should not stand for the position as councillor. He is a shame for all good ideals, Labour stands for!

Whilst bigotry is an anagram of “BigTory”, it is not restricted to any political persuasion. Sadly the hate of the LGBT community is well rooted in all political parties.

If he finds council meetings boring then perhaps he should not be seekign election as a councillor. Did no one tell him he would have to attend!

As for the gay jibes, well lets perhaps not get too wound up by them!

  5. Doesn’t sound homophobic to me. I’m not sure there’s anything to apologise for and I can’t see what all the fuss is about. I don’t know about the sexism charge, which may hold some water, but comparing rugby to gay porn… where’s the insult? Where’s the demeaning? If someone compared beach volleyball or mixed doubles tennis to straight porn would that be heterophobia? And as for expressing boredom at a boring council meeting… are local councillors now required to pretend absolute fascination with everything they do these days?

    Slow news day, clearly.

I imagine this is the last we will hear of this idiot. I cannot imagine that even on their wildest day the people of Glanaman would elect this numbskull to clean the streets never mind a seat on the the council. This ejit has effectively declared himself ineligible for a place in the human race and political oblivion will teach him an expensive lesson.,

Ah right. Welshmen built like brick outhouses playing a proper game?
Unlike your American equivalent that uses every guard, shield, helmet or protective covering known to man so the team looks more like a squad of SWAT soldiers, and they need a bunch of ra-ra girls to coax them on.

And you say OUR game looks gay?

  8. I’m not particularly concerned about his views on gay porn or rugby, there appears to be a potential link to humour there given banter about the PN April Fool.

However, for someone seeking to be an elected official to represent his electorate to say that they would rather not attend council meetings suggests someone who does not take democracy seriously and who does not put the needs of his electorate first.

    “Shahid Hussain”?
Well there’s a nice Welsh name for you.
What’s the bets he’s no miners son or comes from the valleys?
Any self-respecting Welshman would deck him for bringing the national game into disrepute, before even touching on the subject of homophobia.

    Post a reply →
    1. Why ‘disrepute’?

I think it’s more offensive to suggest that the only true Welshmen are those from the valleys or miners’ sons. Bryn Terfel, to cite just one example, is neither.

Well, I don’t know about you, but most people consider porn not exactly “decent and upstanding” shall we say? I think he just added “gay” as the cherry on the top.

If you want to piss any Welshman off, just slag off rugby.
It is totally apparent that this man is a complete foreigner, and making flammable comments like that he deserves all the crap he gets, and these people wonder why they get stick.

        Post a reply →
        1. How pathetic you make Welshmen sound, getting that wound up about a game invented in an English public school in the mid-19c. I’m sure they’re more intelligent than that. I haven’t met that many Welshmen, but I’m pretty certain those I’ve met wouldn’t get all that agitated over a bloody ball game.

Who knew the racists would be all over this story.
What has his name to do with anything. English names in Ireland, India and the Middle East weren’t exactly welcome either but they bullied their way in anyway. This dude, who just may have been born in the valleys is at least seeking election altho I think his rather stupid and homophobic tweet has rendered that idea null and void.

Maybe you should go stand in Delhi and tell them their cricket is sh|t and see how far you get.

      1. What’s so truly Welsh about a game formalised at a Warwickshire boys’ school in 1845?

As for cricket in India, that’s the sort of extreme reaction you might expect in developing countries. I thought the Welsh had evolved a bit beyond that? In any event, you’re assuming that likening rugby to porn is insulting – it may have been intended otherwise (and wasn’t it you who was instructing me the other day that all that matters in a joke is the intent?).

Just in case you had all forgotten, everyone in his constituency will be eligible to vote which means women, and people who are not Welsh by birth but just happen to live there.
His comments as reported are silly, particularly about people not using Twitter (if that is really what he said) but it is pretty much a non-story.

A skinny little bloke walks into a bar and says “There are only two good things that have ever come out of Wales – Rugby players and Tarts.”

This massive bloke stands up behind him and taps him on the shoulder and says “Excuse me, but I’ll have you know my wife is Welsh.”

The little fella looks up and says “oh, er, what position does she play?”

  20. Trial by media, yet again! Clearly there is not enough wrong with the world to be talking about that a sensationalist story like this hits the news. Would anyone be offended by this usually? Heaven forbid that a politician should have a sense of humour! I love rugby and have often likened it to soft gay porn, it’s not a totally unfounded thing to say. Why is everyone so offended by it? Is it because likening the sport to something ‘gay’ makes it less masculine; I say those ‘offended’ by the joke are the real bigots.
