As a Labour Member I do say, this person should not stand for the position as councillor. He is a shame for all good ideals, Labour stands for!

    1. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 5:15pm

Oh. He hasn’t been bribed or fiddled his expenses yet then? ;)

Teh poroblem with so many bigots is they get a boner every time they hear the word gay.

poor old duffers. need a vibrating dildo

    3. Whilst bigotry is an anagram of “BigTory”, it is not restricted to any political persuasion. Sadly the hate of the LGBT community is well rooted in all political parties.

  2. Having occasionally seen a rugby game on TV I would have to ask what kind of porn this guy watches :P

    1. Having occasionally seen gay porn I have to wonder what sort of rugby game it was too.

  3. Mixed martial arts maybe…

  4. If he finds council meetings boring then perhaps he should not be seekign election as a councillor. Did no one tell him he would have to attend!

As for the gay jibes, well lets perhaps not get too wound up by them!

  5. Doesn’t sound homophobic to me. I’m not sure there’s anything to apologise for and I can’t see what all the fuss is about. I don’t know about the sexism charge, which may hold some water, but comparing rugby to gay porn… where’s the insult? Where’s the demeaning? If someone compared beach volleyball or mixed doubles tennis to straight porn would that be heterophobia? And as for expressing boredom at a boring council meeting… are local councillors now required to pretend absolute fascination with everything they do these days?

    Slow news day, clearly.

    1. Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick on this one, but when I read it I thought he was being accused of being anti-rugby, rather than anti-gay.

    2. Katie Murphy - ex cath family 5 Apr 2012, 12:12am

He probably gets a boner looking at all those fit bodis

And imagines all parts of the body have a similar size proportion

  6. Paddyswurds 4 Apr 2012, 10:38am

I imagine this is the last we will hear of this idiot. I cannot imagine that even on their wildest day the people of Glanaman would elect this numbskull to clean the streets never mind a seat on the the council. This ejit has effectively declared himself ineligible for a place in the human race and political oblivion will teach him an expensive lesson.,

  7. Why apologise? I’m an American and to me it is definitely gay soft core porn…I mean if you can stomach how ugly most of the guys are. Not my idea of excitement, but definitely VERY GAY!

    1. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 11:36am

Ah right. Welshmen built like brick outhouses playing a proper game?
Unlike your American equivalent that uses every guard, shield, helmet or protective covering known to man so the team looks more like a squad of SWAT soldiers, and they need a bunch of ra-ra girls to coax them on.

And you say OUR game looks gay?

      1. Well said Spanner1960 that was my thoughts too!

      2. Just because American football is even sillier it doesn’t mean that there isn’t something, well, rather gay about thickset chaps grabbing each other and rolling around in the mud together, supposedly in the pursuit of an oddly-shaped ball.

    2. Staircase2 5 Apr 2012, 2:00am

      …’stomach’…!? ‘ugly’…?
What kind of uptight bollocks is that?

  8. I’m not particularly concerned about his views on gay porn or rugby, there appears to be a potential link to humour there given banter about the PN April Fool.

However, for someone seeking to be an elected official to represent his electorate to say that they would rather not attend council meetings suggests someone who does not take democracy seriously and who does not put the needs of his electorate first.

  9. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 11:31am

    “Shahid Hussain”?
Well there’s a nice Welsh name for you.
What’s the bets he’s no miners son or comes from the valleys?
Any self-respecting Welshman would deck him for bringing the national game into disrepute, before even touching on the subject of homophobia.

    1. Why ‘disrepute’?

I think it’s more offensive to suggest that the only true Welshmen are those from the valleys or miners’ sons. Bryn Terfel, to cite just one example, is neither.

      1. Paddyswurds 4 Apr 2012, 2:00pm

This is typical racist tripe from Spanner. Well named as he truly is a spanner and has about as much brains.

      2. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 5:09pm

Well, I don’t know about you, but most people consider porn not exactly “decent and upstanding” shall we say? I think he just added “gay” as the cherry on the top.

If you want to piss any Welshman off, just slag off rugby.
It is totally apparent that this man is a complete foreigner, and making flammable comments like that he deserves all the crap he gets, and these people wonder why they get stick.

        1. How pathetic you make Welshmen sound, getting that wound up about a game invented in an English public school in the mid-19c. I’m sure they’re more intelligent than that. I haven’t met that many Welshmen, but I’m pretty certain those I’ve met wouldn’t get all that agitated over a bloody ball game.

    2. Staircase2 5 Apr 2012, 2:02am

Yet another predictably racist rant from the educated mr spanner…

  10. Someone by the name of Hussain standing as a prospective councillor for an insignificant town somewhere in Wales and he thinks the bigger joke is comparing rugby to gay porn? You couldn’t make it up!

    1. Staircase2 5 Apr 2012, 2:03am

Sorry – I fail to see the joke in the fact that his name is Hussain…
I must be missing something…(EDL/BNP membership card perhaps…?)

  11. Nurse Gloomyweather 4 Apr 2012, 12:20pm

As Labour try to recruit more and more ‘minorities’, representatives like this and those at Tower Hamlet will become the norm.

    1. I doubt the minorities you refer to in Tower Hamlets (I take it you don’t mean the gay ones) would be quickest off the mark to liken anything to gay porn.

    2. Staircase2 5 Apr 2012, 2:04am

I see the EDL tossers are out in force again today…

  12. damnedfilth 4 Apr 2012, 12:36pm

More a lesson in not using twitter when bored, stick to watching porn, counciller.

As for Spanner – you are a complete gentleman, sir, with your wonderful comment on abrick “outhouse”, never heard of (sh) it described as that.

And yankie doodle dandy, at least we can see rugby players’ faces, unlike the motocycle riders in jodpurs your side of the pond

    1. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 5:11pm

I would have said sh|thouse, but this crappy website doesn’t like potty-mouths.

  13. aunty babs 4 Apr 2012, 1:16pm

how very dare he compare gay porn to rugby. gay porn is art and should not be demeaned like this.

    1. Well I know it certainly inspires me when I watch it.

      :)

  14. Paddyswurds 4 Apr 2012, 2:07pm

Who knew the racists would be all over this story.
What has his name to do with anything. English names in Ireland, India and the Middle East weren’t exactly welcome either but they bullied their way in anyway. This dude, who just may have been born in the valleys is at least seeking election altho I think his rather stupid and homophobic tweet has rendered that idea null and void.

    1. Spanner1960 4 Apr 2012, 5:12pm

No true Welshman would say that about his national game.
Maybe you should go stand in Delhi and tell them their cricket is sh|t and see how far you get.

      1. What’s so truly Welsh about a game formalised at a Warwickshire boys’ school in 1845?

As for cricket in India, that’s the sort of extreme reaction you might expect in developing countries. I thought the Welsh had evolved a bit beyond that? In any event, you’re assuming that likening rugby to porn is insulting – it may have been intended otherwise (and wasn’t it you who was instructing me the other day that all that matters in a joke is the intent?).

  15. Quite apart from any other considerations (i.e. homophobia), what kind of penishead, running for election in WALES, has a poke at Rugby?

    1. That was another thought that crossed my mind!

  16. rubyfruit 4 Apr 2012, 7:45pm

Just in case you had all forgotten, everyone in his constituency will be eligible to vote which means women, and people who are not Welsh by birth but just happen to live there.
His comments as reported are silly, particularly about people not using Twitter (if that is really what he said) but it is pretty much a non-story.

  17. Jason Brown 4 Apr 2012, 8:12pm

To be fair I’ve jokingly called rugby gay porn as well, they’re easily mixed up, I don’t think he said anything offensive.

    1. Spanner1960 5 Apr 2012, 9:12am

Maybe, but you are not a prospective councillor for a Welsh town.

  18. Spanner1960 5 Apr 2012, 1:19pm

A skinny little bloke walks into a bar and says “There are only two good things that have ever come out of Wales – Rugby players and Tarts.”

This massive bloke stands up behind him and taps him on the shoulder and says “Excuse me, but I’ll have you know my wife is Welsh.”

The little fella looks up and says “oh, er, what position does she play?”

  19. Here we go again not letting people be themselves because we force them to adhere to our standards.

  20. Trial by media, yet again! Clearly there is not enough wrong with the world to be talking about that a sensationalist story like this hits the news. Would anyone be offended by this usually? Heaven forbid that a politician should have a sense of humour! I love rugby and have often likened it to soft gay porn, it’s not a totally unfounded thing to say. Why is everyone so offended by it? Is it because likening the sport to something ‘gay’ makes it less masculine; I say those ‘offended’ by the joke are the real bigots.
